My eyes burned in the dim light of the living room, Gregori and I both wore dark glasses, which weren't doing anything, but Gary was late, and we couldn't go to ground until he picked up the twins. I covered my eyes as a knock sounded on the door, Gregori walked over to it and answered, leaving me lying on the floor with our daughters.
"You're late." Gregori's voice was cold and cutting, I was too tired to scold him.
"I'm so sorry, Gregori!" Gary apologized.
"We'll talk about it later." They came back into the living room and Gary scooped Anastasia up in one arm and Anya in the other.
I came over and kissed each of their heads and whispered words of love in their ears. They looked at me solemnly and gripped my fingers with theirs.
After Gregori said goodbye, Gary carried them out the car and drove them over to Falcon and Sara's house, where the daycare was set up.
Gregori gently gathered me into his arms and floated us down the stairs to our resting place. With a sigh of relief, we slid into the soothing earth, and fell into the welcoming darkness.
