Aragorn walked towards the Gondor stables with Arwen in tow. They grinned as he led the way. He hadn't told her where he was taking her. Just that he had a surprise for her. She could only guess what it could be, but when they came within view of the stables, she was fairly certain she knew.
He came to a halt at the stable door and turned to give her a quick smile, "Wait here." He released her hand and took a step forward, "Close your eyes."
"Aragorn."
He tilted his head slightly, his eyes growing a bit bigger.
"Alright." She sighed, allowing her eyelids to close.
His smile grew as he walked to the back of the long barn and pulled a large black horse from its stall. He led the stallion out into the sun light. The click-clack of hooves made Arwen's smile grow.
"Open your eyes."
She hesitated before letting her eyelids flutter open. What stood before her was a massive black horse. He made Aragorn look tiny. His coat was the blackest she'd ever seen and his mane was braided into dozens of thin braids. His hooves were covered by thick feathering and his tail was wild and untamed
"His name is Bucephalus." Aragorn loosened his hold on the massive animal's led rope and the horse walked with great grace up to Arwen. Bucephalus lowered his head to her level, sniffing at her face before allowing her to run her delicate fingers across his forelock and down his neck.
"He's beautiful."
"He was a warhorse," Aragorn said, smiling at them, "but he needs someone lighter to carry, someone with a gentler hand." Arwen took hold of the rope and walked down to the horse's shoulder, running her hands down his side. Aragorn walked towards them and put a hand on Arwen's cheek, running his thumb along her lips, "He will protect you when I cannot."
Arwen closed the distance between them, pressing her lips to Aragorn's delicately. Bucephalus bent around and sniffed at her hand. He slapped his lips together against her arm, reminding the two of them that he was there.
