Some fluff to start out your weekend. Enjoy!
Today Matters
Rex was in a bad mood. He had been in one all day and though many people commented on it Rex hadn't told anyone why. He would just growl at them and form his Big Fat Sword until everyone got the message and stopped coming up to him.
He spent the majority of his time in training, even going so far as to eat his meals in his private locker room so he wouldn't have to deal with the whispers and pointed looks he was sure to get.
Six attempted to question him but had to settle for the lame excuse of "teenager stuff" when Rex refused to divulge any more details.
"Have it your way," the green clad ninja had agreed and set the next training course to 9 the second hardest setting in the system in retaliation.
Now battered and exhausted Rex slowly walked to his room and tried not to feel sorry for himself; and failing miserably. Rex knew he was being stupid, that today was just another day, just how yesterday was and just how tomorrow will be, but he couldn't help it he was stuck feeling this way and there wasn't anything any one could help him.
Most of his problem stemmed from the fact that he didn't know how to explain that the reason he'd been moody. How would you explain that today, exactly one year ago, he had met Noah and that his world was going to never going to be the same and the reason why you were so pissed off was because your best friend hadn't done anything to mark of occasion?
Normally something like this wouldn't bother him. Beyond his "birthday" and Christmas there weren't many days that Rex felt the need to celebrate, and yet somehow, his first day with Noah seemed to qualify. He figured it was because Noah was the only friend he had who was his own age. If he really thought about it, Noah was his only friend. Sure, he got along with some of the other Providence Agents, but he considered them his friends from work and though he knew he shouldn't he thought of Agent Six and Dr. Holiday as family. Bobo may be an EVO like him, but the Chimpanzee was way passed his teenage years, and couldn't understand Rex at that level.
But Noah, Noah was different.
Noah was special in a way that no one else was. It's true that he had been hired by White Knight to keep an eye on him, but that was just how they met; it wasn't who they were now. Noah is his best friend and for someone who had a history of losing his memory remembering the days that were special to him held great meaning to Rex. And as it turns out hanging out with Noah for the first time was one of those days.
With a heavy sigh he activated his bedroom door and walked in. He stopped when he saw his desk. He grinned widely and chuckled in happiness at the can of soda that sat waiting for him. He jogged over to it and saw that there was a note folded into a small rectangle right next to it. He picked both the can and the folded note and went over to his bed and plopped down. Ripping it open he read the card; it was only five words, but they were five words that couldn't have made Rex happier.
Happy anniversary, Rex
Your Noe
He pressed the lukewarm pop can to his cheek, suddenly grateful that people had left him alone all day, because it allowed him the freedom to shed the tears that abruptly appeared in his eyes.
