Title: Another Day
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I own nothing from Rookie Blue. I just enjoy the show and its characters.
Note: This takes place before Bad Moon Rising - Traci and Jerry were still apart. I 'm thinking - a two or three parter.
For the third day in a row, Traci poured out a bowl of muesli, sliced a banana into it and topped the whole with cold soya milk. She had never been particularly fond of this type of breakfast before but the carton had looked so inviting on the supermarket shelf, not too far away from Leo's own favorite cereal brand. And she just couldn't resist. The fact that this was also Jerry's brand had absolutely nothing to do with it ... not at all, she told herself ... many times. Since then she awoke every morning with a craving for the stuff.
She looked across at her son. He was alternating between spooning mouthfuls of cereal and milk into his mouth, driving his toy truck around the edge of the table, truck engine noise included, and picking out the pieces of fruit, she had so carefully cut up, from his bowl.
"At least he's a multi-tasker." She smiled to herself.
"Don't eat so fast, kid" she murmured. "You've got to chew your food, you know."
"Done!" Leo dropped his spoon into the now empty bowl with a clatter and looked up with a cheeky grin.
Traci grinned back at her son. He was a terrific kid.
"Go get cleaned up, Leo. We're leaving in ten minutes."
"OK." Leo shouted over his shoulder as he raced off to the bathroom.
Traci started to clear up. She could have asked Dex to take Leo to school but he had come in really late last night. She didn't want to wake him. Honestly, she didn't want to face him this morning. Everything in this relationship seemed like such hard work. "Not like when ...", she immediately stopped that train of thought.
Besides, she loved being with her son and she wanted to drive him to school. She looked at her watch. She would have just enough time to get him there and be prompt for her shift, if she left ... now!
Grabbing her bag and Leo's backpack on her way to the door, Traci called to her son.
A quick once-over as he raced past her and through the open door and they were off. It was just another day.
