A group of demigods and other mortals stood around a coffin in the middle of a field. Jason Grace had died. All was silent for moments after moments. Percy decided to speak up.
"I'd like to say a few words."
Everyone looked at him. He squeezed Annabeth's hand. "Jason thought the same way I did. He was always there for me. We had lots in common. I… just can't believe that he's gone. It was so sudden."
Annabeth said, "I'd like to say something also. I… didn't know him that well, but he got along with Percy, so, that was something."
She received some faint smiles after that comment. "I guess that I was the one who sparked his memory when Hera wiped it away. I reminded him of his name, and his family, and his legion. We got along well, I guess. He never felt like a rival to me, he felt like a friend."
It seemed like everyone was going to talk now. Annabeth gazed at Hazel, but she ducked her head in response. Frank, however, spoke up.
"I wasn't there to see it, but I know that Jason toppled the Black Throne and defeated Krios, the Lord of the South and the Titan of the stars. I always looked up to him, physically as well as metaphorically. He was my role model, even when he gave me the praetorship of Camp Jupiter alongside Reyna." Frank sighed. "How could I not look up to him? I think all of us looked up to him." Hazel, who rested beside him, nodded.
Frank looked to Nico, but he said nothing.
Lester/Apollo decided to speak next. "I was there when he died," he noted. "He sacrificed himself for Piper, Meg, and me. It was quite honorable. I would like to recite a haiku—"
Meg nudged him.
"Right," he said. "Not the time."
It was quiet again, for a few moments, until Leo decided to say something.
"Jason was like a brother to me, and my best friend at the same time," he said. "It feels weird… knowing that when I died, I didn't die—I had the Physician's Cure. But when Jason died… he died. It was so upsetting when I was told…" He silenced himself.
Piper, who was standing next to Leo, said, "It didn't really feel real when we were together… and it didn't really feel right when we were apart. But it still felt… incredible… when I was around him. I don't get it. I don't think he would either, but… when he died, I… was… I didn't believe him. I thought Apollo could revive him. But after a while, I accepted that he had died."
By this point, tears were streaming down Piper's cheeks. Leo put his arm around Piper's shoulder.
Then Reyna said something. "I… admired Jason. He was the perfect praetor: honorable, brave, courageous, persistent… I don't know what I would have done without him."
Piper looked at Reyna solemnly. She wiped the tears from her eyes.
Thalia decided to speak last after another moment of silence. "I was born to Zeus. Jason was born to Jupiter. We were so alike, yet so different, and it was straining me for so long… I loved him so much. He was the best little brother I could have asked for. When Jason disappeared, I had to run away… what was I supposed to do? It's strange, that technically, he was older than me when he died…" Thalia had decided to stay fifteen forever.
"I remember when he tried to eat a stapler when I was five…" The group could tell that memories were flooding into Thalia's head. "It's just so heartbreaking for him to be gone. He deserves to be in Elysium."
Everyone was distraught by Jason's death. Thay moved on, but whenever they were in a tough situation, they thought, Do it for Jason.
A/N: Sorry for the sudden ending. This was… really difficult to write. I mean, come on. You try writing a sad one-shot like this.
