A little one shot for my best friend in the whole wide world! Hope I've done this little request justice for you, Kate. Love you loads! xx
Date Night.
Aaron stared blankly, his brow furrowed in concentration at the shelf of pasta sauces in front of him. He had wanted the tomato and herb, seen as that was the only one he recognised, but Robert thought otherwise. He suggested they branch out, become a little 'adventurous'; the idea wasted on Aaron. He continued to stare at the rows of pesto alla trapanese, sugo alla puttanesca and ragú sauces and let out a frustrated sigh. What even was ragú?
"Well? What will it be?" Roberts voice interrupted the males thoughts, and he glanced up towards his boyfriend with a shake of his head.
"Can't we just have some fish and chips? I'm really not in the mood for cooking." Aaron replied, his dark eyes looking at Robert pleadingly. He was still dressed in his overalls, covered head to toe in oil.
Robert let out a defeated sigh, placing the jar in his hand back on the shelf. He had wanted to do something nice for his boyfriend after all he had been through this year. It had been a tough road for Aaron, and Robert didn't think they'd be where they were today. Happy. Content. Enjoying each other's company like any other couple would. In a way, they had been living different worlds for awhile. Aaron was practically a Dingle, and Robert had been married to one of the richest women in the village. They had some differences, and their taste and class in food was one if them. "Should we just have beans on toast and be done with it? You're not gonna like anything I choose." Robert replied, shoving his hands into the pockets on his jeans and walking aimlessly around to the other side of David's shop.
"Come on, don't be like that," Aaron commented, swinging the basket back onto his arm and following behind Robert. The last thing he wanted to do was upset the love of his life, especially over something as trivial as food. He took a quick glance around the shop, before making his way quickly over towards the small freezer section. "Here you go, if you fancy Italian so much. There's a meal for two, beef lasagne with a choice of side and wine for £12. I vote garlic bread." He suggested, spinning around to face Robert, who simply gave him a disapproving look.
"Frozen ready meal? That's the best you can come up with? Is that all I'm worth?" Robert teased, giving him a playful wink. His words had woken David from the newspaper he was reading in the corner. "Hey, that's fresh in today that is. If you don't like it, why don't you go into town instead!" The blonde frowned between the other two males, making a point of straightening out his paper before burying his head back into it.
Silence followed, and Robert gave his boyfriend a quick smirk. Aaron chuckled quietly, but didn't think that was a bad suggestion at all. Of course, he would have to go home and change, but he was sure he could perk himself up. "So how about it, Sugden? We haven't tried that new Italian in Hotton town centre yet?"
Robert tilted his head and thought for a moment. It couldn't hurt, and it would be the first time they'd been out for a meal together as a couple. "You'd better go and change. Pick you up in half hour?" He smiled brightly, watching Aaron put down the empty basket and walk towards him. "Sounds good." The brunette returned a beaming smile, placing a soft kiss on the other males lips, an arm snaking around his waist momentarily. "Don't be late. I'll be waiting.." Aaron whispered lightly against his lips, before pulling away and flashing him a wink as he turned and left the shop. Robert simply watching him leave, the smile still playing on his lips as he could only think how lucky he had become to be able to share his life so openly with the man.
