Hello everyone, here's the edited first chapter, hopefully it will make a lot more sense. I'm sorry its taken me so long to get around to doing this. This is the second story I posted here on FFN. I know I haven't updated since Jan 28 2013 and I'm so sorry. I've changed the timeline of the story. Instead of taking place before Yami gets his memory back it now takes place after Atem gets his memory back but before the Final Duel.

EDIT 27/09/18: I realized today I had made a mistake in regard to the flash back and a few of the things mentioned in the second chapter. I'm going through and fixing a few things up. I won't mention why as it will ruin the surprise. If you pick up anything that doesn't quite work please do tell me though be polite. I don't notice everything when I'm editing things.

Yugi was tossing and turning in his sleep. He had been having the same dream since Atem got his memory back two weeks ago. He didn't tell anyone, even though he wanted to, everyone time I went to he started to feel sick. Yugi knew he should tell Atem what was going on as his dreams had something to do with his past but he couldn't for some strange reason and it was more than a little annoying. He couldn't help but wonder why the guards had done that. Would they still have done it if they had known he was the Prince?

Yugi's Dream: Ancient Egypt – Yugi's POV

I was down the semi dark street of Kemet, like I always did when I had this dream. As always, I was walking towards the Thief King looked a lot like Bakura only older and far meaner who was peering around the corner of a building. Likely wondering if he could get away without the guards patrolling at the end of the street noticing him or the bag of food and gold he was carrying. I had seen him get the food from one of the venders in the market. The Vender seem rather confused when a small stack of coins were left on his bench after some of his food went missing.

"You had better get out of her quickly if you don't want to get caught by the guards," I tried to warn him, the Thief King jerked and turned to look at me, a startled look on his face. He clearly hadn't heard me. I was trying to be as quite as possible as I didn't want to get caught by the guards even though I knew it was a futile effort to hope they wouldn't catch me after I distracted them while the Thief King got away. They away caught me no matter what I did.

"Why do you say that?" the Thief King question, likely wondering what I was doing outside the palace as he moved into the shadows, I tried to stop walking but found I couldn't, I never could, no matter how much I wanted to. It was only a matter of time before the guards noticed us. I started to walk faster knowing the guards would turn down this street soon . I sometimes wish I hadn't taken off the bracelet Akefia gave me (1), then maybe the guards wouldn't have what they had.

"STOP RIGHT THERE," one of the guards shouted, I ignored him and kept walking knowing what was going to happen next. I grabbed the Thief King's hand and pulled him down a little before pointing to the street across from us. He stared at me, clearly shocked. I got the feeling he knew who I was even though I had changed my hair and eye colour, so no one would bother me.

"I don't know why I'm helping you. Go down that street and turned left and you should be near the edge of town," I whispered before I walked out of the shadows, hoping I could distract the guards long enough for the Thief King to get away. I had no idea why I felt the need to help him. Maybe it was because he looked so much like Bakura who had been my friend since I was eight-year-old.

"What are you doing outside the palace after sunset servant?" One of the guards demanded looking down at me with a frown on his face, he was likely wondering how I had gotten out of the palace without anyone noticing I was gone. I was wearing a servants 'uniform'. The guards who patrolled the market end of Kemet knew the people were afraid of them and used it to their advantage despite the fact Star – The Captain of the Guard had warned them about their behaviour.

"Star asked me to get something from the market. I must have taken a wrong turn," I replied backing away knowing it was a futile effort as there was no way I could get away from the guards as two more walked down the street. I knew what was going to happen next and I was looking forward to it. They were going to be killed for attacking me.

"I don't care what Star wanted you to get, we've warned you what would happen if we caught you outside the palace after dark," the second guard snapped trying to trap my arm, but I managed to dodge but lost my balance sending me to the ground, I shuddered as I though about what was going to happen. I have no idea where they got that branding iron as there wasn't a fire in the abandoned building they always dragged me into.

"Take him to the Pharaoh, he'll know what to do with the brat but let's have some fun first," the third guard stated, I was boxed in by the three guards, there was no way I was going to get away. The second guard grabbed me and dragged me into an abandoned building tearing my shirt and used it as a blind fold so I couldn't see as they started to whip me. One of the guards threw hot salt water on me after 90 lashes. Two of guards pinned me to the ground as they branded my name on my stomach.

I heard one of them start to say something when I passed out.

End of dream – Normal POV

Yugi covered a bitten off scream not wanting to wake anyone up. His stomach felt like it was on fire. He lifted up his shirt and saw the brand: Atem, Prince of Egypt on his stomach, that hadn't been there when he went to bed. Atem appeared beside him, more than a little worried. Yugi had woken scream every night for the last two weeks, something seemed different tonight. Like the dream he had been having was worse then usual.

"Yugi are you alright?" Atem asked more than a worried, he asked Yugi if he was alright every night after he woke up screaming, tonight seemed different somehow. Yugi jerked and turned to look at Atem, he opened his mouth to answer but his stomach started to burn. There was no way Atem would believe he was fine when it was obvious he clearly wasn't. Atem sat on the edge of Yugi's bed wondering what was wrong with his Hikari, he gently whipped the tears from Yugi's eyes, he would ask later when Yugi wasn't in so much pain.

Yugi was eventually able to get back to sleep, though it was a fitful sleep at best and he was exhausted when he woke the next morning.

'I wish you would tell me what's wrong. I know there's something I'm not remember and get you are. I hope you tell me soon then the horrible feeling of dread will go away,' Atem though not realising the link was open or that Yugi could hear him. The pain in his stomach the next day has lessened some, though not by much as it hurt to breath. He somehow manage to keep off his face as grabbed the bag with the millennium items in it, trying not to scream when he bent over.

He wasn't at all surprise when he found his friends waiting for him in the Ishtar's kitchen. They were staying at a hotel in town with his grandfather.

My writing style has changed a great deal since I last updated at the end of January in 2013. The reason I haven't updated until now is because I'm not really into Yugioh anymore and reading through this chapter was so confusion and didn't really make any sense. I think this was originally hand written this and didn't do a very good job when I copied it onto my computer. I have done back through and added a few things here and there to make the story flow better. Star is my own character. I hope this chapter makes more sense now.

(1): The bracelet Akefia gave Yugi is important to the story and will be explain in a future chapter.
