Safe and Sound
"After I'm finished with you, Avatar, you will be nothing…!"
Her scream woke her up from the sheets, beads of sweat rolling down her face and her entire frame.
"Korra…!"
Tarrlok was beside her as she felt his arms wrap around her.
She held on to her husband, feeling herself sinking into him as he rubbed his hands behind her. She began to sob.
"It's alright, Korra… You're safe now. Shh, it's alright. I'm here… I'm here."
He had just as many threats of assassination on his person since he was a Councilman, but she was the Avatar. She had enemies left and right. Anyone could come into her room in the middle of the night and attack her, poison her food… Come up, talk to her and even stab her.
She loved the work she did as the Avatar, but what came with duty also came with strife.
Why did worrying for her life constantly had to be one of them?
Once she calmed herself, she looked at her beloved.
"Sorry that I woke you…"
"It's fine, darling… You don't have to apologize for anything."
She felt his lips against her forehead.
Nobody else in this world understood the pain she felt more than him. She knew he would always be there to catch her when she fell. His arms were the safest place in the world.
They laid back into the sheets as his arms wrapped around her. She would always have his back just as much as he had hers. They were always going to be a team.
She closed her eyes. "Tarrlok…? I love you."
"I love you, too, my turtleduck Queen…"
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound…
