Dean heard Sam's cry as Metatron yanked the angel blade from his chest. He knew he was a goner but maybe it was better this way. Then he turned his head and met his brother's eyes. Everything that had gone unsaid between them the last few months was hanging there, unresolved. He had to make it right.
I'm sorry, Sammy. Should've told you sooner.
Should've told you how I felt.
I'm proud of us.
Love you…..
As he slumped to the floor, he knew if he could find the strength to say those words it would all be okay.
A/N: This episode won't leave my mind. I haven't been this broken up over Supernatural since the end of season 5. My reason for writing this (other than I like to torture myself) is I believe all this and more went through Dean's mind but when it came to the moment that he knew he was dying, he chose the words that would cover it all. Same as Bobby chose "Idjits," Dean knew "I'm proud of us" would encompass everything that had ever been said, not said or shouldn't have been said.
Also, I wrote a second drabble for the same scene from Sam's POV called I Lied.
