This Time
To be honest, he was never good with nightmares.

When the dreams came, the boy with raven hair always woke up with a start, with a longing for someone to hold to hold on to. Jolting into upright position, hands so white, clinging to those royal blue bedsheets. His face pale, flushed. Sweat glistening against his skin, body shaking uncontrollably. Gasping for air, teeth clenched. Eyes closed in attempt whilst away the unforgiving tugging of a dream.
It hit him, though.
Piercing screams, last breaths, yearning cries. It's been years now, and yet the images were still branded into his mind, as if it were just yesterday. A never-ending, constant, cruel attempt of a horror movie that summed up his daily dose of a daydream.
But, that was it - this, this thing wasn't just dream. It was a memory of that fateful day where everything went horribly wrong. The one time when he could not deny that he was beyond afraid. The one moment where the color red was all he was saw.
The day of the death of his clan.
Being the lone survivor of the Uchiha Clan had put a weight on his shoulders that this was it. That he was it.
It's a constant reminding that he is entirely alone - this dream - and as much as he wanted to believe otherwise, his clan was still dead. And despite himself, his heart ached for need of some comfort. The need for a hug, the need for someone to whisper that it would be alright and everything (and everyone) would be okay. The need for him.
Itachi.
Why him, of all people? Maybe because he was the one who would always practice throwing shuriken. Maybe because he constantly gave him piggyback rides, never saying no. Maybe because he always the one who cracked his door slightly open, in case his little brother had a nightmare.
But, this time, Itachi wouldn't be there to comfort him a bad dream, to rub away the empty, possessive feelings and lull him to sleep. No one would. Because Sasuke would make sure of it.
