It's surprising (to him, at least) that she's older than him, but giving that it is the first day of July and she's fourteen and he's still thirteen, he still has a few weeks to go.
The fact that she's older than him bothers him. Not that he really cares, but he checks desperately to see if that could interfere with their relationship, according to the stars. He, in all honesty, doesn't believe in horoscopes in the slightest. According to the stars, he is a Cancer, which he isn't quite sure about. He's not one for being compared to a chronic illness (though she always scolds him and reminds him this is like a krabby, not the abnormal division of cells), and his horoscope declares him to be "emotional", "moody", "compassionate", and "touchy". He could take compassionate and emotional (hey, he's a nice guy!), but he certainly doesn't like being called capricious.
According to the stars, Crystal is Taurus the bull, the patient yet stubborn being. At least part of it's accurate, he grumbles to himself.
But according to the stars, the two are "compatible". That he is honestly okay with, though he will never admit it aloud.
He asks her one day, "Do you believe in astrology?"
She pauses to give him a suspicious stare. "A little."
"Why?" he pries.
She hesitates, then smiles slightly. "Because. You can see the stars."
