What a Shadow Knows
The shadow knows all.
It knows the difference in the rise and fall of his strong chest. How in battle the movement of breath his hardly there, like a deep sleep, and long afterwards, when all barriers to weakness can finally be cast aside, it's like a wild animal that can't breathe.
It knows the footsteps he makes. The way he can turn them so soft not a thing would hear him coming. And the way they stand firm, rooted into the ground as hard as the wind can manage.
The shadow knows his touch.
It knows that the rancher turned warrior can turn his calloused leathery hands into a smooth silk. The way they can touch without touching, and leave a mark on an otherwise pure soul that hungers day and night for more. Or the way the touch can send a being of darkness reeling over the edge, burning into the light with a desire unquenchable.
It knows the strength of that touch. How it turns monsters into bloodstains on a blade, and demons into mere memory. The strength, the softness, the power exuding from a single touch, the shadow knows it all.
The shadow knows his eyes, as well.
The eyes of a wolf. Untamable, as wild as the beast that lay dormant within him.
It has seen worry pour from his eyes, directed towards it of all things. It has seen hatred boil as it faced the demon. It has seen them smirk with an ancient arrogance from a time years before. It has seen joy, courage, confusion, hopelessness, and relief all beneath the feral blue eyes.
And love.
The shadow knows his love.
The love of a best friend. A confidant. A partner. A brother. The friendly love that shines as he looks into the shadow's eyes. And the look of an ancient love as he gazed upon a face as ancient as he.
Yes, Midna knows him.
But then again, shadows know everything.
This little ditty is the bastard son, or daughter, of procrastination and the MIGHTY NEED to write a Zelda piece. Its close relatives would be hours spent playing Twilight Princess, too much time watching Invader Zim, and for some reason…Dirty Jobs.
don't ask…
on a side note, I sorely miss putting prompts numbers under my title.
