Marrying Absurd: The Proposal

by KnightHunter

"Fred can I ask you something?" Angelina asked Fred as they walked down the crowded city street arm in arm.

"What did I do now?" Fred asked nervously as he stopped walking to look at her.

"You are not in trouble." Angelina laughed as she pushed him on the arm.

"That's good to know." Fred laughed softly as he apologized to the tall gentleman he had stumbled into.

"How long have we known each other?" Angelina asked as a wily smirk crossed her face.

"Is this a trick question?" Fred asked with a chuckle as they continued walking.

"Fred..."

"Ok." Fred nodded as he began to count on his fingers. After a minute he turned to her and answered, "Ten years, six months, and four days."

"Very funny" Angelina shook her head as she wrapped her arm around his. "How long have we been friends?"

"Now I know this is a trick question!" Fred declared as he tried to shake free from her grip.

Angelina smirked again and pulled him closer. "Answer me or else."

"Ok. Nine years, eleven months, and one week. If you count tomorrow." Fred answered matter of factly.

"How long have we been together as a couple?"

"Easy. Five years, eleven months, and twenty days." Fred answered after a moment, causing Angelina to stare at him. "Not that I've counted or anything."

"Only five years?" Angelina asked angrily.

"Eleven months and twenty days." He added as he smiled at her.

"What about our third and fourth years at Hogwarts?" She protested as she let go of his arm and place her hands in her coat pockets.

"Those don't count." Fred argued lightheartedly. " Sure we were more than friends, but we weren't a couple."

"You were in love with me then." Angelina countered.

"Of course." Fred smiled as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

"Then those years count." She concluded as she reached up and pinched the hand he had placed on her shoulder.

"Alright then, they count." He agreed as he winced and quickly pinched her shoulder in retaliation.

"I'm curious. Why do you ask?" Fred asked as they continued walking down the street.

"We've been together a long time." Angelina sighed as she wrapped her arm around his waist.

"Felt like forever, but I wouldn't want to be with anyone else." He said reflectively as he lightly hugged her.

"Really?" Angelina asked as she returned the hug.

"Really really."

"Let's get married." Angelina suggested.

"Alright then." Fred agreed happily. "May I propose to you?"

"If you must." Angelina laughed as Fred dropped down on one knee.

"Will you marry me, Angelina Johnson?" He asked soulfully.

"Of course I will, you stupid git." Angelina crouched down so that they were face to face. "It was my idea."

"I love you." Fred whispered as he leaned forward and kissed her.

"Love you, too." Angelina whispered back as he pulled away. Fred laughed as he quickly stood clasped Angelina's hand and pulled her to her feet. "I mean, we're already living together, might as well walk down the aisle."

"Oh, how romantic." Angelina said as she lightly pushed him. "You just had to get one more joke in, didn't you?"

"What? Who me?" Fred asked as he pointed to himself.

"I love you anyway."

"Of course you do. You are marrying me."

"I'll never be bored." Angelina smiled brightly as they walked down the street, towards her parents apartment.
