It was a day as any other could be for me on my home island. "hey look it's that weird kid again!" the kids I walked by kept saying to me.

My name is Valcryen by the way. Anyway the scene of the town of my island was quite industrial but in a way quite high tech.

The kids here always bully me though because of my poor appearance. See I live with my dad out in the forest area of the island and well most of the ones in town are quite wealthy.

Although we live in the outer rim anyway so we wouldn't be treated any better I guess.

I was going out to the docks so to do some fishing. I'd never found anything more peaceful though as I went to the usual fishing spot three boys came up to me all three looked from the inner rim.

"hey look it's one of those from the outer rim. What are you doing here?" one of them said in a rude tone.

"the docks belong to everyone." I told them back but my bravado didn't spare me from getting pushed around literally.

"heh see the sign over there! It says no trash! And outer rim people are trash!" the leader boy said and he pushed me into the water.

I couldn't swim and the water hurt me even more than usual. I was drowning and scared of the ocean depths.

Just before I was going to pass out I saw something blue approach and help me out of the water.

I was coughing as I spat the water out from inside my mouth. I was in a lot of pain as well. I looked to the one that saved my life and saw it was a boy that was a fishman.

"thank you." I said in a weak sounding voice.

He nodded. "you're welcome. So um how come you couldn't swim? I'd heard humans could swim." the boy told me and I shook my head.

"I never learned how to swim and my dad said that since I ate some strange fruit that made it so I couldn't swim at all… I never went in the ocean." I told the boy and he gave me a concerned look.

"then why were you in that water then?" the boy asked and I sighed.

"I got pushed into the water by three jerks that thought they owned the docks." I told him.

"If I may ask… what's your name?" the boy asked me and I looked into his eyes. I felt myself starting to like him.

"My name is Valcryen. What's your name?" I asked the boy back.

"I'm Jinbei." Jinbei told me and I smiled.

"Jinbei do you want to be my friend?" I asked him sweetly and I couldn't tell but I was blushing.

Jinbei blinked. "I'd like that. I dont really have any friends bar one person back in the fishman district of fishman island." Jinbei told me. "though I doubt you could meet seeing as it would be pretty difficult." Jinbei told me.

"well one day I might. One day I hope to leave this island… I hate it here." I told Jinbei.

"how come?" Jinbei asked me.

"well because I am treated like dirt. Anyone from the outer rim is only treated like dirt, like we are just garbage." I said with my fists clenched.

Jinbei pat my back gently. His hand felt warm and gentle. "well I dont see you that way. Although humans are seen as really bad I don't see you as bad." Jinbei told me. "friend."

Those words stuck with me and after a week of spending time with Jinbei he said that he had to head back to his home… well the orphanage he grew up at.

"We will meet again Val don't worry." Jinbei told me and I felt like crying and he pulled me into a hug.

"Please don't cry Val. I promise we will meet again… I will make it an oath." Jinbei said and we shook hands then he left.

"I cant wait to meet again." I told myself and I was blushing. 'I've fallen in love with him.' I thought to myself in joy.
