Thursday afternoon
In retrospect, Seth figured that maybe making out in the pool house with Ryan wasn't, as a matter of fact, his greatest idea yet. Especially while his parents were still home. Actually, this could be considered one of his worst ideas. Totally not stealth. Seth prides himself on his stealth.
This one bad idea lead to the awkward position they were in now. Confrontation with the parents. If there is one thing Seth doesn't like, it's confrontation. It's sort of not his thing. Seth vaguely wonders if climbing out the window would be very stealth right now.
"So, do either of you want to talk, or do we have to force it out of you?"
Uh oh. The Sandy was bringing out the lawyer suit. Striking with his lightning fast powers of persuasion, he leaps straight into action. It wasn't until Seth saw everyone staring at him that he realised that he said that last part out loud.
"Look, Mom, Dad, I mean, we're not even brothers really."
From the look on their faces it's quite obvious that maybe that wasn't the right place to start.
"I'm sorry we didn't tell you, but, you know, this is how we thought you'd react. With the whole crossed arms, angry faces and the whole living room confrontation. Is it a problem for you, the whole, being gay thing? 'Cause I would totally understand if it was and ... I am going to be quietly sitting now."
Seth really needs to learn to control his rambling.
" Oh honey it's not that. It's just, um, are you sure this is what you want? You guys are just such good friends that, well, we just want you to be happy."
As expected, compassion from the Kirsten.
Sandy seems to mull it over for a while. Then he turns to Ryan.
"What about you, Ryan. Anything to say?"
As if.
Ryan shakes his head. " No, Seth pretty much said it all." Then he gave Seth one of those sideways glances he is so famous for. Seth shuddered. Sometimes those were downright creepy.
Again, Sandy speaks up. " So you two aren't going to college together. What are you going to do? Weekends, long weekends, Thanksgiving, Chrismukkah? Where? Over here, over there? Have you given any thought to what's going to happen when you leave?"
Ryan seems bewildered.
Seth wasn't. "Well Dad, uh, no, no we haven't. In fact, that is what we are going to do right now. In the pool house. Come on, Ryan."
Ryan didn't need any more prompting. In ten seconds flat the boys were out of the living room and into the pool house.
"Well you have our blessings!" Sandy called after them. Kirsten leaned into him, a little shocked and tired after all the day's excitement.
"At least we don't have to worry about any kids!" Sandy joked.
"Honey, I think it's a little too early for joking." Kirsten said, tiredly. "I mean our sons? They're together."
"Hey, I'm a Cohen. It's never too early to joke!"
Kirsten just looked at him, and then looked over at the pool house. Seth was talking animatedly, with lots of hand gestures. Ryan was sitting there soaking it all in. She smiled; they did make a good couple.
Oh what a Thursday afternoon it had been.
