Chapter 1- Shippo arrives
In the Warring States Era... (oh, let's say around... 1520 B.C.)
Shippo glanced down the Bone Eater's Well. He sighed.
"Well, there's the well, but no Kagome. I really miss her— whoa, whoa!" Shippo lost his balance and toppled down the well.
"And... that definitely wasn't good," he said, hearing a loud ZAP noise. He tried to climb out of the well, but couldn't get too far. His tail was in the way.
In the present (2003)
"And if that wasn't bad enough, I could be stuck in this well! What am I going to do?" he pondered, pacing at the bottom of the well. Then, he heard voices.
"Yeah, Jamie, the noise came from over here. It sounded like a wounded animal stuck in the well," a female voice said.
"Again? Isn't that the fourth time this month?" a second voice said quietly.
"Yeah, actually, the fourth time in the past two weeks," the first one said, lowering her voice so it would match the second.
"Will you please help me? I need out!" he called. Then, he heard two screams.
"It talked!"
"There's a person in there!"
Then, reluctantly, the two girls poked their heads over the ledge of the well.
"I don't know. That thing looks like a squirrel to me," the blonde girl said. She laughed.
"It looks human enough. Is it a boy or a girl, Naomi?" the brunette whispered to the other girl, which you could tell was Naomi. She yawned.
"Why can't we just go watch 'Inu-Yasha'?" she said, her words overflowing with boredom.
"Because! We have to help this... um... whatever it is."
"I'm a fox! Not a squirrel! Will you help me? And why in the world would you want to watch Inu-Yasha anyway? He's mean to me!" Shippo exclaimed.
"Ooh. Did you hear that, Jamie? There's a little 'fox-child' who thinks that he's Shippo!" Naomi and Jamie giggled.
"You're right, Naomi—"
"—Just like when?"
"Just like all the time," Jamie groaned. Naomi was obviously getting on her nerves. Naomi, however, laughed.
"That's right! Don't you ever forget it!" Yeah, they pretty much forgot about Shippo.
"Hello?" the call came from inside the well.
"I wish you would stop!" Jamie yelled.
"Hello?"
"Yeah? Well, you're the worst fighter I've ever seen!"
"Hello?"
"Oh, you want to prove that?"
"Break it up and concentrate on getting me out of this well!"
The two girls were distracted by Shippo's yelling (finally).
"So. If we get you out, what will you do for us?"
"I don't know! Hurry, before I starve to death!" Shippo yelled. Naomi groaned as Jamie jumped down the well. A minute later, she emerged from the well with Shippo on her back.
"Oh, my. Oh, my. That is the real Shippo," Naomi said, her mouth open wide. Shippo looked at her.
"And... why would I not be?"
"Because you're... not real...?" she said, and Shippo hopped up onto her head.
"If I weren't real, then why am I standing— correction, sitting— here?" he asked her.
"I don't know. What are you doing here, anyway?" Jamie asked. Shippo shook his head.
"How the heck am I supposed to know?" he said, standing up.
"You're heavy for such a little person," Naomi said, pushing Shippo off of her head. He fell, trying to grab onto anything solid, failed, and hit the ground.
"Gee, thanks. This... this— whatever it is—" he pointed to the gravel— "it's very uncomfortable. Why don't we go inside?"
Naomi shook her head, but Jamie, feeling sympathy for Shippo, took his hand and they went inside.
"Stupid Jamie," Naomi said, following them.
