"It is... disconcerting to see you again, to tell you the truth."
"Why is that?"
Gale finds it inexplicably difficult to look at him in the eyes. "I devoured you."
Lupa smiles, warm and gentle and far more real than anything Gale has seen up to this point. He touches it lightly with two fingers, failing think up of any logical reason why he does it other than to simply feel it there.
"Yes, you have," Lupa says, quietly amused. He lifts a hand and holds Gale's in his. Gale decides, right then, that he rather liked the contrast of their skin; dark on pale. "You honoured my request. And," he adds, low and ever sincere, "I am sorry."
Gale leans forward until their hands are under his chin; Lupa's lips a faint caress against his forehead. He closes his eyes, breathing in their proximity, commits it to memory – something to focus on if it comes to a moment where there is nothing between him but empty space. He lets out a sigh, then, and it's almost as if all of his tension flows out along with it. He knows only familiarity, safety. Gale allows himself a small smile as he says,
"Don't be."
