Legend Forgotten
by Nevquessewen
Sometimes I find even ants to be more sophisticated beings than this race presently dominating Earth, calling themselves Humans. Ants at least have some purpose, some reason, if one can call it so, behind their lives, however wretched they might be. For them it's all about their queen, feeding it, protecting it, dieing for it, thus ensuring the future of their kind.
The sad thing is that Humans don't have even this. They are simply… pathetic. Their lives are spent in unsatisfaction. Every now and then they revolt in hope that things will go for the better, killing a few people in the process after blaming them for all their trouble, thinking they destroyed the source of their problems, but they are wrong, as usual. With each failed attempt at improving things the source of their problems increases, not vice versa.
They wander through time and space without leaving behind any sign that they were there once. Their footsteps are so easily erased by wind. And then… they are lost. But if somebody actually manages to leave behind something to remember him by, his legacy, their feeble human minds forget it so quickly. Their race never turns back, wondering about its collective past. But without past, they can't have present and without present they can't expect future.
Merely two thousand years is more than enough for them to forget everything. Just look at Sparda. He was the hero of his time, yet two millennia after that he's not even the myth of today. Forgotten. He sealed the entrance to Hell and now Humans don't even know it exists, once demons tormented them, now everyone laughs at the mere idea of them being real. Once Mundus was a threat to all of Earth's inhabitants, now he's nothing more than a dusty statue in some unknown place. Forgotten, all of them.
Imagine my surprise then, when someone, and a Human at that, came to me asking to share the legend of Sparda. From the moment I first saw him I knew that he wasn't entirely human. He was somehow… devilish. Maybe I will even grant his request. Yes… Now that I think of it, he may be just the kind of person emitting evil, fitting to help me raise Temen-ni-gru.
No, more than just raise a tower, to show this ignorant Humans a piece of their buried past, a mirror to their own ultimate, chaotic end. I will force them to face things they don't believe exist, I will give them proof of demons and devils and powers they don't believe possible. I don't care how many monsters will escape the tower as long as I get the access to the Demon world. Maybe Humans will finally realize their own insignificance, maybe they will remember again the Forgotten Legend, the Legend of Sparda, for it was hidden for too long and hidden things have a thing for resurfacing in all their former glory and splendour.
After some time this pathetic Humans will probably forget this manifestation as well, I have no illusions about the capacity of their minds, but at least for a while the Forgotten is going to be remembered.
Special thanks to Morwen of DTC who beat read this for me. Thank you so much! XD
