The Reasons For The Final Name Change

Well reason's behind a name change. This story is in the KH folder to help viewers find it because the main reasoning is dealing with the KH game and there will be multiple crossovers in this one story so I am keeping it together here. Complain if it bothers you that much.

So I guess this is kind of like an author's note to the readers explaining the reasoning behind the story about to unfold.

Some language in this is not for children's eyes. Viewer discretion is advised (nothing is honestly too terrible but I have to rate this accordingly. There is nothing more than language ^.^) but I can't make you do anything so yeah. Don't get mad at me. I warned you.

Over the past couple of years a couple of things have come to my attention while gaming. Most importantly are backstories. Most games provide well thought out and generally pretty darn good stories. HOWEVER, there is a single story that I have come across that I cringe every time I think of it. (I may be pointing out new things to you or, maybe you already feel my pain. I don't know.)

In the game Kingdom Hearts, many characters from the Final Fantasy games are included. Characters range in importance as well as amount of screen time in the game. From the least important (to me, you may feel different) are people like Selphie, Wakka, and Tidus who appear on Destiny Islands in Kingdom Hearts 1 and are there for leveling up and learning the controls. People like Aerith, Cid, Yuffie, and Cloud help move along the story and they even have a sort of side story in the game when dealing with Hallow Bastion/Radiant Garden.

Now here's the issue. I have searched many a website in order to learn of something, the reason behind Squall's name change in KH. We see clearly whenever he is speaking to Yuffie that the other Final Fantasy characters (at least Yuffie) know his name was Squall. In Kingdom Hearts 1 he corrects her and says it's Leon. We never heard any issue of it again.

But the reason it bothers me so much is he had no reason to change his name. He had nothing to do with the heartless and he was in a new world where no one even knew him. If he wanted to start over he could have still used his name and just not told anyone his backstory. Plus, the name Leon Leonheart bugs the shit out of me and makes him sound like some sort of… well idiot.

So in order to soothe my anger I have decided to create different scenarios involving different games that would make him need to change his name, even if it was a stupid name to change it to. So far I have at least 2 ideas for stories, and they will be placed here. Any characters used are not mine and I am not affiliated with their creator, because if I was you'd bet your ass Leon's name wouldn't be Leon. Just sayin.
