Hate the Rain
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing: NaruSaku
Rating: G
Warnings: Spoilers for the end of the pre-time skip section, kinda... not like we couldn't see it coming, but besides that... yeah...
Disclaimer: If I owned Naruto, there wouldn't be fillers, and Naruto and Sakura would have already gotten together, as would have Shikamaru and Ino, and Neji and Tenten... so evidently, I own NOTHING. ::shrugs:: But 'tis life...

Sakura hated storms.

The rain and the lightning always seemed to be warring with each other for dominance as the thunder accented the blows of the battle. The rain, normally gloomy and cold, would flare up in a sudden torrent just before a yellow bolt of lightning would flash swiftly across the sky.

The thunder rumbled again, and Sakura amended her previous thought.

She hated rain.

It was just so sticky and wet, and it got into everything and made life so uncomfortable until you could change clothes and dry off, which was sometimes difficult to do. Rain was dark and gloomy, and even sometimes annoying, even if it did have its place in life.

Rain reminded her of a painful past that she almost wished had never happened. The dreary feeling that settled over her every time it rained reminded her of a certain raven-haired Uchiha, who she thought she had left behind. But every drop was a searing burn on a scar that would never fully heal.

That's why, Sakura realized, she really liked lightning.

It was quick, and bright, and always seemed to fill the sky, no matter what it did or how big it was. There would be a FLASH, and then it was gone, but you still knew it had happened, you could always tell. And it was almost happy. Not smiles and sunshine happy, but more the "I'm too confident in my abilities to let you put me down" type.

Sakura thrived on it.

The lightning reminded her of her blonde-haired teammate, solid and sure, and always quick to jump to the defense of someone he cared about. Maybe not always hitting it right on the head, but always getting something done, especially if he put his mind to it.

And it was there and gone, like the peck he gave her on the cheek after walking her home through the rain, but you knew it had happened, you could feel it when she walked in a room, and see it plainly evidenced on her face by the tell-tale blush. It was crystal clear to even the slowest of people (among which their friends were not), when, the next day, she captured his lips in a quick kiss before darting off in the general direction of their old training grounds.

Yes, Sakura loved the lightning.

R&R please. Lots of love and metaphorical sweets (pocky, cookies, etc.) will be given to those who do. And a friendly thank you message too.

NaruSaku fans, please check out Help Wanted when it goes up. Multi-chapter project of mine, for times when my original fiction slows down. Thanks. Lots of less than 3s. (Don't you hate it how they take out the carrot?)
