HUMILIATION
Never before had Germany felt so humiliated.
It wasn't the crushing defeat at the hands of England and France that humiliated him, oh no. He could handle the bitter, salty taste of loss with dignity. He would raise his head even though his body ached from phantom wounds of his people's fatigue and anguish, and stare down the Allied Powers to show that though he had been kicked down, he would still have his pride.
The Treaty of Versailles, however…
It completely humiliated him before the rest of the world. Its choking shackles latched tightly around his throat when the bosses concluded it, feeling a gut wrenching agony tear itself around the area of his diaphragm when his Sudetenland was taken from him. It felt…strange, and depressingly sad when a piece of himself was forcibly taken, the small buzz of the people's heartbeats and thoughts that lived there (which was always a comfort, a faint whisper of life that thrummed with his in the back of his head) being eerily silent.
Military restrictions. No navel support. No aerial support. Reparations of £11.3 billion (and where would this money come from!?) to be paid. Territories lost. Separated from his brother, Prussia. His people were tried as War Criminals for being soldiers that fought for him. And he had to admit that this was solely his fault. All of it.
The death of his people, and his humiliation, was his fault.
Germany almost snarled at the Allied Powers Nations staring at him across the meeting table, but he had discipline to rein the feral urge back, the invisible chain of the treaty around his neck tightening.
He had lost. And if this was the consequences then…then he must endure it.
"I take full responsibility for The Great War…"
