Yellow was always Janet's favorite color.

When she was a child its warm presence was all around her. It was in the summer sun toasting her skin as waves tickled her toes. In the thousands of sunflowers that danced as she spun around in her favorite dress. The sleepiness that blanketed her as she watched her sister brush golden hair every night before bed.

As a teenager she found freedom in the streamers that fluttered from her handlebars. Took pleasure in the delicate petals of the yellow rose her date placed around her wrist before the Junior Prom.

In college she almost lost it's vibrancy in the blur of books, teachers and too much caffeine.

Later she found happiness for a while in the slim band of gold that gripped her left ring finger, but it soon tarnished.

During the early days at the SGC she discovered that the glow of a smile against dull gray walls could make the violent red of death hurt less.

But now, listening to a voice that doesn't belong to Sam, watching cold yellow flash in eyes that do, Janet hates the color.

Damns it to Hell even as its vicious warmth envelops hers.
