Summary: Jessica Hamby sees the rain for the first time since Bill has turned her. (FPPOV)

The Rain

"Jessica! Will you stop staring out the window and get to work please?" Sam barked across the crowded bar. "What have you never seen rain before?" Arlene whined impatiently, slamming a picture of beer on the table where Jason and his crew sat at. "Why don't you stop getting pregnant" I mumbled quietly under my breath. Merlottes was usually crowded on Fridays so it wasn't anything new. Between Arlene yelling at Sam and Sam yelling at Tommy and all the drunken rednecks it was sometimes hard to think, so most the time I just didn't.

The rain fell harder as the night went on. I sat quietly next to the window in a small booth staring out at the empty sheets of rain that fell beautifully to the ground. "Sam?" I called out blankly, slowly putting my frozen hand against the glass as the rain trickled fourth. "I'm taking a break" I giggled quickly sliding out of the booth and running to the door. Once I reached it I found myself leaping into the rain like a foolish child running to catch an ice cream truck, only this time it was a foolish baby vampire running to catch something that was nearly impossible.

As soon as my feet hit the wet grass there was nothing holding me back. I suddenly felt no anger or thirst. I was just Jessica. I giggled and twirled embracing every moment as if it were my last As if I were just another human dancing in the rain. Even though I knew my dream would soon come to an end I couldn't help but to hope for the opposite.

Everything was suddenly clear. My mind wondered back to the night Bill was forced to turn me. The anger I felt afterwards was unnecessary. Bill had the choice to let me die and he chose to give me another chance. Why did I hate him? "Jessica" Jason chuckled, obviously accidentally.

"What in the hell are you doing?" he crossed his arms in curiosity. I sighed and looked up at the mellow sky beaming with stars. "I was just…" I paused shrugging my shoulders. "Playing in the rain" he asked skeptically. "Yes Jason… playing in the rain" I admitted flashing a small smile.

"Well then" he stood there scratching his head. "Let me guess" I sighed wringing my hair out and throwing it back into a ponytail. "Sam wants me back in the bar?" I asked sarcastically already knowing the answer. "You got it girlfriend" He winked opening the door. I smiled and walked back into the bar.

"Hey Jason" I stood there thinking for a moment. "You know you not as bad as everyone say's" I giggled walking away. "Teenage vampires… gotta love 'em" he smirked and sat back down.
