A/N: This is a bit of an artsy piece guys :-) Just Booth and Bones fluff
Please remember that I do not own any characters or plots etc of Bones… I'm merely borrowing them and changing a few things because the creators tease us too too much haha.
It was the little table they sat at in the diner, so small it gave them an excuse to sit closer to each other. He always leant forward and spoke quieter so that no-one else could overhear… and maybe so that he could catch the scent of her perfume. She could never resist mirroring his body language, leaning in and joining him halfway across the table, their faces merely inches apart. His hand would sometimes fiddle with his coffee mug or a sugar shaker between them and her gaze would be drawn down to them… remembering what they felt like on her skin.
It was the way those hands held her safely, pulling her close in a tight embrace as they comforted each other. Booth was always touching her, holding her, dragging her along behind him.
It was his reaction when she fixed his back. Her arms had wrapped securely under his shoulders, locking on his neck. It took her only a minute of perfectly executed chiropractic twists to release the tension in his spine… but it seemed to last much longer. She had felt the heat from his body seeping through his clothes and into her. She had felt him freeze for an instant when her hands first touched him, before a small tremor shook his body and he relaxed.
It was the concern they shared for each other… He was always worrying about her, protecting her feelings because too many strangers thought she had none and wasted no time offending her. It was the way he shared her pain when he couldn't shelter her and she was hurting.
It was the banter they shared to loosen the mood of dead corpses, broken relationships, criminal families and missed sons. Booth loved to tease her about her anthropological views and she couldn't resist mocking his romantic views on life.
It was this and so much more that made Temperance Brennan miss a day of work for the first time in her career. Booth called it a 'chucking a sicky' and teased her when she tried to defend herself by rephrasing it technically. "Dr Saroyan understands that all of us occasionally need to take Personal time to return to work at our full capacity and sometimes that occurs without forewarning. I'm confident the team will support Wendall as acting anthropologist in the lab and no-one will miss me."
It was the way he looked at her when she'd finished her speech and smiled like the cat that got the cream. "They'll miss you Bones. I miss you every day that I don't get to see you"
It was the way he tugged her down in bed beside him and gave her a long leisurely kiss.
It was Booth holding her, smelling like her… smiling down at her and whispering all the loving things she'd waited so long to hear. It was crossing the line… It was the job, the partnership, the friendship… it was love.
