They see beauty and imagine vanity. They see vanity and imagine contempt.

They never imagine intelligence. When you are the Pretty Girl you must be three times as intelligent to be seen as even competant.

They never imagine bravery. When you are the Pretty Girl boldness is seen as arrogance.

They never imagine insecurity. When you are the Pretty Girl they see you as a bauble - shimmering exterior, empty inside.

Beauty is a gift. For the Pretty Girl doors are opened, friends are made, hearts are won. Beauty is a curse. Will the doors close when you are no longer pretty? Do your friends and lovers see beneath your beauty? Will you miss meeting the love of your life because he's too shy to approach you?

The Pretty Girl is not allowed to express these doubts and fears. They cannot imagine you have any complaints. They cannot imagine your life is anything but perfection.

They hate you.

They see beauty and imagine truth. But truth is hidden behind the beauty. Truth is what I see in the mirror. The sadness that exists within my eyes. The loneliness that is a trademark of the Pretty Girl whatever they believe.

They see beauty and imagine contempt. They see shimmer and sparkle and poise. They worship. They watch. They hope I stumble. They hope I see them.

They see beauty. They do not see me.
