Amortentia

Disclaimer: I own nothing you recognize the quote and all characters belong to J.K Rowling.

A/N: short D/Hr oneshot I came up with a while ago I just never got around to writing it. Enjoy.

Summery: Hermione Granger was not, and never stupid, and she doesn't plan on starting now, While Draco Malfoy was always and almost indefinitely, confused.

"It's Amortentia!"

"It is indeed, it almost seems foolish to ask," Said Slughorn, who was looking mightily impressed, "but I assume you know what it does?"

"It's the most powerful love potion in the world!" said Hermione.

"Quite right! You recognized it, I suppose, by its distinctive mother-of-pearl sheen?"

"and the steam rising in characteristic spirals," said Hermione enthusiastically, "and its supposed to smell differently to each of us, according to what attracts us, and I can smell freshly mown grass and new parchment and—"

But she turned slightly pink and did not complete the sentence.

Hermione Granger was never and never will be stupid, and she sure as heck wasn't going to start now. The hot fumes from the boiling potions were overwhelming and the characteristic smell of the Amortentia was addling her brains slightly.

The musty smell of freshly mowed grass, swirled around her, and the crisp scent of fresh parchment caused her skin to tingle slightly, but that wasn't what caused her momentary slip of tongue, although she recovered quickly.

The smell was warm, fresh, clean, and slightly spicy; the sensual smell caused goose-bumps to erupt on her skin and her head to spin harshly. Of course Hermione knew what the smell was they only went to school together for six years and had a lot of classes together. As stated before Hermione was not stupid, and she noticed a lot of things, especially that smell. And to say the truth she was sort of ashamed.

Draco Malfoy was always and almost indefinitely confused. The smell coming from the pearly potion was sending his senses out the window and he didn't like it at all.

The smell of crisp night air, and the sweet sent of a hot baked apple pie sent his senses flying.

But it was the third smell that puzzled him. It was simple and not over bearing but haunting, sweet and light with a hint of passion. Like a lotus flower blooming at midnight, shinny and beautiful. He had caught wafts of it before but he could never find the true source, of the intoxicating aroma. And it utterly confused him, but he put on a look of indifference as he worked intently on his Felix Felicis.

Potions class ended and she was slightly angry at Harry for getting the stupid potion better that her. Hermione walked swiftly out the door and then she smelt it the sent that meant…well…

She turned quickly to lock eyes with a pair of curious grey eyes that seemed to swim. Blushing deeply, she turned with a flick of her golden brown curls she was gone.

Draco exited the class room in a foul mood, Stupid-bloody-boy-who-wont-shut-up-and-freaken'-die-already had made the stupid potion perfectly, who would have guessed.

And then he smelt it, the haunting aroma that he couldn't place. He looked and caught eyes with a pair of brown orbs that seemed to swirl with gold and then she turned with a flick of her dark brown curls she was gone…

And Draco Malfoy was ever the more…confused.

The end.
