A/N: Welcome to the first chapter of A Bright Future! This first chapter is more of a backstory of how my OC came to be, but the next chapter will bring in Future Gohan and Trunks!
Disclaimer: I do now own DBZ or its characters. I only own my OCs.
Aro laughed boisterously in his slightly drunken state with the other man next to him. The two were at the bar just downtown of their homes, and were winding down from their mission from just a couple of hours ago.
Aro was in a squad with two other people. He wasn't well known or anything in that matter, but he was content with being a low-class soldier. With being cast off as a low-class, that meant he wasn't in the spotlight and that he hadn't garnered a reputation, not like the soldier Bardock.
As he wiped the remaining alcohol from his lips with his gloved hand, said Saiyan weakly, but urgently, stumbled into the bar. His eyes looked frantic and crazed, and his movements were sluggish to the point where he crashed into one of the tables near the entrance.
Everyone's conversations stopped at his appearance, some with shock in their eyes and others with amusement, probably thinking he got way too plastered on his own.
"Hey, Bardock!" One of the Saiyans cheered with a navy-haired female at his side, smiling coyly up at the burly Saiyan. "What's wrong with ya?! Had too much to drink?!" He laughed while others did as well alongside him.
Aro quietly chuckled into his mug of beer, keeping a close eye on the Saiyan man who braced himself one of the pillars. Looking at him closely now, he noticed he looked beaten and bloodied, probably coming back from a mission. However, every Saiyan usually went to the infirmary to recovering in a healing pod.
What was so important to come rushing to a bar after a mission? Was the mission that stressful on the young man? Aro mused to himself.
"This is no time for jokes!" Bardock growled as he pressed his palm on the pillar and tried to steady his body. "All of you need to evacuate this planet right now!"
The Saiyans stood silent, confused and a bit wary at his words. "What do you mean? Why would we do that?" One of them questioned.
"It's Frieza…" They tensed at the mention of the name. "He… I saw it. He's going to be this planet's destruction... H-He'll kill us all if we don't leave this planet right now!" He shouted, desperation in his voice. "I saw a vision! He will be our downfall if we continue to live on here!"
Aro was shocked at the man's display. For all his life, he'd known Bardock to be a man of few words when it came to anyone except his squad. Speaking of which, where were they?
As if reading his mind, Bardock growled in a pained voice. "Dodoria.. H-He killed my teammates! He left me for dead! He knows Frieza's plans! You guys have to believe me!"
The whole bar was silent at his words. They didn't know what to think of his words. On one hand, they thought he was talking nonsense for even mentioning Frieza in such a way. On the other… he was capable of doing such a thing. What if he was right?
It wasn't until the burly Saiyan from earlier snorted and raised his mug in the air. "Jeez, man! Maybe all the blood from mission has gotten your head or something! You need a drink to calm your hysteria!" He laughed obnoxiously loud and soon enough, the others had joined him in ridiculing the man.
Bardock sneered at the crowd and swiftly turned his back to him. "Be that way. I'll go kill Frieza myself…" He muttered darkly under his breath as he made his way out of the room, unaware of the pair of dark eyes following his limping figure.
Aro was lost in his thoughts. Bardock wasn't known to cause random outbursts like these, from what he's seen. Every now and then, he and his team would be at the bar celebrating after a mission well done and the most he'd done in terms of outbursts is laugh a little too loudly at the jokes his comrade, Tora, would make.
He had mentioned that he has seen Frieza kill them all in a vision, so that would mean he had some kind of psychic power, something not known to the Saiyan race.
If what he was telling was true… Then he'd have to leave the planet immediately. He'll just have to fake a solo mission.
As much as he wanted to bring his teammates with him, he was a selfish man and cared for only himself. Besides, those two idiots were also along the laughing crowing, probably not even sparing Bardock's words.
Aro was more of a critical thinker and when he's out on missions, he planned things carefully before going on with his mission. His teammates usually didn't care for his careful planning, but he insisted on it.
So, with that in mind, he stood without his words to his drunken teammates and left the bar, walking down the halls with a goal in mind: Get in a pod with a made up mission, search for an available planet that wasn't on Frieza's radar for trading, and leave.
Once outside, he flew into the direction of the work building where Frieza's henchmen usually lended out the pods for missions. Once he reached the area, he made his way to one of the soldiers working near, making eye contact with the purple, big-headed alien that reached his chest.
"Appule," he addressed the alien calmly. "Are there any pods available?"
Appule sneered at the Saiyan, but dutifully glanced in the general area of the pods and stated, "There are a couple more, but 2 of them are going to be used to send out more babies."
"Hmm," Aro hummed thoughtfully. "Well, I'm in need of one for a solo mission."
Appule smirked mockingly. "Is that right?... Well, don't go getting yourself killed." He cackled, stepping aside to let the taller man through. "Not that I care if you do!"
Aro resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he walked passed the alien, but replied, "Understood."
As he sat in the pod, calmly checking over the system to make sure everything was ready to go, he could faintly see something out through the wide, open space of the area. It was bright, it almost looked like a sun, but he knew Planet Vegeta did not have a sun.
With a slight panic, he checked the list the coordinates in a list of the system pad, scrolling a bit to set place a planet far away enough from Vegeta to make sure Frieza would take his time getting there, or not at all.
Even though whatever was heading their way was still far enough, he can already feel the heat from that powerful blast.
Finding a set coordinate named "Earth," which was more than enough distance away from the area, he quickly set the coordinate in the system. The pod came to life as it responded, "Now heading to: Planet Earth, home of the humans."
He knew it took a bit for the pod to start, and he willed the damn thing internally to hurry along, lest he be fried Saiyan meat along with everyone else. Even from his position, he could see some Saiyans looking into the sky with questionable and fearful faces, not knowing what was heading their way.
Finally, the pod beeped, ready to blast in the air, when a frantic Saiyan suddenly bumped his fists onto pod. Aro glanced to the side to see that burly Saiyan from the bar, mouthing words with wide eyes and a fearful expression.
Not understanding, nor caring, what the man had to say, he calmly turned his head forward just ad the pod pushed and shot into the galaxy, away from the impending destruction that was once Planet Vegeta.
In space, Aro took the time to activate the sleep mode in his pod. He knew this was going to be a long ride.
Mimi Leigh had a pretty average life on Earth.
With her plain looks; dark brown hair, a petite frame and pale skin, she wasn't much of an eye-catcher to the opposite sex. She was at the age of 21. The thing that cost most attention were her eyes.
A unique shade of golden yellow, complimenting her skin tone. Her nickname was dubbed as "sunshine" due to her eyes and her bright personality.
Her parents have passed of old age, considering she was the last baby of 6 children; all girls. Her sisters were already all married with children and lives of their own, living in the city.
However, Mimi decided to stay in the country, where she grew up. She was content from staying away from all the city folks and preferred to live in the quiet area, with all her farm animals and growing crops. She had a couple of neighbors she was friendly with, but she still liked being home.
As of now, she was picking out tomatoes from her garden to make a stew. The weather at this time of the year was not too hot, but with a chill breeze. It was perfect timing for the tomatoes to be ripe.
Crouched down, she picked another plump fruit from the stem with a small smile on her face. She put it in her basket and sighed, wiping the sweat off her brow. Being in the sun, she wore jean shorts and a loose white t-shirt, opting with no shoes since she would be walking in the soil.
As she stood with her basket, a sudden rumble on the ground made her yelp and fall on her bottom, dropping the basket with her.
Mimi gasped as she spotted smoke a few miles into the wheat plains of the farm. She grew worried that a plane might have crashes, so without further hesitation, she forwent the basket and started trudging towards the plains, keeping her sight on the smoke so she wouldn't get lost.
She arrived at the scene and gasped at the sight. It was a peculiar white globe-shaped plane, dirtied with dents all over it. Just as she tried to approach cautiously, a hissing sound rang in the air as the front of the plane opened with a loud thud to the ground.
She watched as a tan hand was placed on the edges before the body rose with it. She gasped outloud again.
It was a tall man, wearing weird armor covering his chest with straps on the shoulders in blue. Underneath were black spandex, with some blue boots that match the armor and arm guards he wore. His hair was wild and all over the place and she couldn't help but admit he had a handsome face, even with a strange device placed over his left eye.
What made her recoil, however, was the brown, furry appendage swaying around freely behind him, and his cool gaze upon her.
"W-What are ya?!" She shrieked as she backed away from him.
Aro regarded the woman with a wary gaze. He had a headache after being woken up from a meteor hitting the side of his pod, but luckily, he was already close to Earth. He just had a bit of a rough landing.
He exhaled through his nose and spoke in what he hoped was a calm voice. "I am Aro, a resident from Planet Vegeta. I have come to Earth… to reside in its home for shelter and away from my ruler."
Mimi gazed at him in fear, but also confusion. Planet Vegeta? She never heard of such a thing, and he said he was getting away from the planet's ruler!
"I mean.. no harm to you or your people. I am simply wanting to start a new life… Feel free to point me to a direction where I can get some help." He stated.
She looked at him for a long moment before sighing and retreating her steps. "Follow me, I know a place ya can stay."
Mimi lead her to her own home, a small one-story house. It had a cozy feeling with the wood interior and yellow coat of paint on the outside. It was also the home she grew up in.
She led him through her old bedroom, as she decided to take her parents's bedroom a while after their passing.
"Here ya go, stranger. Though I think I should stop callin' ya that." She mused as she looked into his dark eyes.
"Aro." He said simply as he observed his surroundings of the plain bedroom.
"Well, I'm Mimi Leigh. Make yourself comfortable, Aro."
She smiled softly at the man, who merely grunted and turned away, which made her giggle as she can see the tips of his ears pink.
The two didn't know their relationship would blossom into something wonderful, only for it to be ripped away from them in the end.
23 years had passed and things have been blissful.
Aro and Mimi's relationship had grown in a matter of the first months of living under her roof. He indulged to the reason he escaped from his planet, along with the history of his race and the reason why he had a tail. She had listened carefully and still accepted him with open arms.
He mated with her and together spent their lives in the little house of her parents. During the 2nd year of Aro being on Earth, Mimi was pregnant with their first and only child. Mimi didn't want to have a big family like her parents did, and he was more than okay with that.
So, she gave birth to a baby boy, who they named Haruto.
Haruto Leigh had taken after Mimi in looks, with her pale skin and dark brown hair, but he had his father's dark eyes and of course, a tail.
Aro had learned first hand that it was wise to chop the poor boy's tail off, as he had accidentally stared up at the moon in the middle of the night when waking from his slumber.
Needless to say, Aro didn't need another experience like that, and he had no idea how to train him in his ape form.
Haruto grew up beautifully, as tall as his father standing at 6'0. He loved raising their farm animals the most, but tended to stay away from the crops because it "too much work" for him.
Aro promptly hit him over the head and demanded to do the work.
At the age of 17, Haruto had brought home his first girlfriend.
Her name was Mia Kimo, and she was a city girl from what they gathered. However, she was a sweet girl. With black hair and brown eyes, Haruto was drawn to her beauty while she was drawn to his cute country accent.
The two were as close as ever, and at 20, Haruto and Mia were expecting their first child.
9 months later, and a baby girl was given to them. However, because of Mia's complicated pregnancy, she was weak from her body pushing past its limit when giving birth.
With a pained smile while holding her baby girl for the first and last time, she whispered softly, "Haru."
She passed away that night, and though the Leigh family were sad, they were also happy that they were given a gift. Their sunshine, Haru.
It was almost too perfect, the way their life was leading. They didn't know what would happen in the following year.
Haruto panted heavily, holding the bundle in his arms as he and his father were running down the city streets.
Screams of terror and agony sounded in his ears as he ran, scared out of his mind.
He and his parents were enjoying a nice day out, along with his little Haru in his arms while they gathered some groceries since the crops were a bit dry this season.
Everything was fine, until those two came.
They alerted their presence by blasting a building nearby, scorching hundreds of people inside and destroying the building entirely.
He had never been more scared in his life.
Aro had told him to run as fast as he could, while he protested they should just fly away instead. But then he mentioned that the beings would find them easier that way, and they had to keep the baby safe.
Anything for our little sunshine.
With that, Aro had picked up his wife and ran alongside his son, both vowing to keep their family safe.
Just then, Mimi screamed, "Aro, look out!"
He turned just in time to see a blast heading their way, but he side-stepped without skipping a beat and continued running. "Don't look back there, Mimi! Keep looking forward!"
She whimpered in his arms, terrified for not only her life, but her family's.
She looked over to see Haruto not faltering in his pace, his daughter sleeping peacefully in his arms despite the jumps he had to make.
She prayed to Kami to keep her family safe.
A mocking voice sneered near them, "Look, 17. They think they have a chance at running off."
Aro quickly turned his body towards the voice, eyes widening as he took in the teenage-looking cyborgs.
Android 17 and 18.
17 was a young man with black hair and blue eyes, his female counterpart a blonde hair and the same eyes. They may have looked young, but they were dangerous and lethal. He wouldn't put his family at risk.
"Mimi," he growled lowly, gently setting her on her feet. "Follow Haruto, and get out of here."
"No, dad!" Haruto protested, placing Haru in Mimi's arms as he turned towards his father. "If you're doing what I think you're doing, then I'm fighting too!"
"No, Haruto!" Aro barked. "You have a cub to raise! Think of her growing without a father! She'll be devastated!"
Haruto faltered, and that it was all it took for Aro to push him off to Mimi's side and burst his energy as much as he could, dashing to the two cyborgs and engaging in battle.
Haruto faltered, but Mimi grabbed his arm. "Come on, Haruto!"
"Mom—!"
"Son, please; think of your baby!" She pleaded. Her eyes showed desperation, pain, and even resignation.
Haruto growled, swiftly picking up his mother and taking into the air, with the baby girl in her arms.
He decided to take a detour, lest he led these monsters to their home and kill them there. He wouldn't allow it!
His determination came to a stop as someone crashed into his side, eliciting a groan from him and a scream from her. He lost a grip for just a second, but even that was too late as he was sent flying towards the ground, his mother and child falling from the air as well, but they were caught.
Haruto righted himself and looked up, his heart stopping as he took in a shaky breath.
The blonde android had a hold of his baby, while the ravenette had his mother.
"N-No…" he whispered shakily, his body trembling at the sight.
18 sighed wistfully as she held the baby with both hands, getting a good look at her. Chubby cheeks, wild, black hair surrounding her whole head and golden yellow curious eyes blinking up at her innocently.
"Hmm… I do admit that she is a cute baby," 18 muttered. A smirk crept her lips. "But, I want to play a game with the boy. What say you, 17?"
17 boredly gazed at the frightened woman trapped in his arms. "Sure, why not."
18 looked down at Haruto. "We'll give you a choice. You can either save the baby… or the mother. Your choice."
"Y-You can't ask me to do that!" Haruto screamed with tears glazing his dark eyes. "P-Please! You can't!"
18's glare hardened. "It's either one or none at all."
Haruto bit his lips hard, almost drawing blood while clenching his fists tightly.
"Haruto…" Mimi whispered brokenly as she smiled softly at her only son. "P-Pick… pick Haru…"
"Mother…" He mumured softly, before taking a shuddering breath. "G-Give me my little girl," he spoke as he glared at the blonde.
18 hummed, before sharing a cruel smirk with 17. "No."
With that, both cyborgs dropped the two bodies. Mimi didn't make a sound except for, "Haruto! Grab her!"
Haru wailed from the sudden drop, as he instinctly surged his weak legs to catch the babe just in time before she even hit the ground. He heard a loud thud and crack near him, and he shakily inhaled and exhaled as he held Haru near to his chest, trying to soothe the crying baby.
Both cyborgs had left after the drop, so he was all alone… with Haru.
"I-It's okay, sunshine…" He whispered as he bounced her a bit in his arms, swaying side to side to calm her down. "We're going to be okay… We're going to be okay, I promise."
He kissed her head softly, crying into his hair.
He would not lose her. She was all he had left, and by Kami, he would do everything to protect her.
"My little sunshine."
Year 779
A wild haired, golden-eyed girl in a yellow rolled-up shirt and overalls ran barefoot along the plains of the grass, smiling widely as the wheat were grown taller than her, but she didn't care. She was on a mission.
"Marco!" She yelled, stopping at a spot to wait for a response.
"… Polo!" A voice whispered in her ear as she shrieked, giggling when a strong pair of arms captured her small body.
"Ah! Daddy! That wasn't fair at all!" She whined, kicking her feet childishly.
He chuckled and set her down, smiling warmly at her flushed face. "Settle down, sunshine. It's time we head back home anyways. It's gettin' dark anyways."
He was right, as the sun was starting to set down, the red, yellow, and orange colors blending into the sky. Haru's eyes gleamed, watching in awe of the amazing vision set in her mind.
"It's so pretty, daddy." She commented with a huge smile on her face.
Haruto patted her head softly. "It is, sunshine."
After watching the sunset for a bit, the two retreated to the farm home.
Haru had grown into a beautiful girl, with a personality to go along with it. She never failed to smile or to make him smile with the way she looked at the positives of things.
Especially in the world they lived in.
Since the day the Androids killed his parents, he had sheltered off into the farm house and only left when necessary. He also decided to train again, so that he would be there to make sure nothing happened to his little girl.
A strange occurrence had happened when Haru was 5, as he had been outside in the open grass in front of the house while she was playing with one of the pigs in the pen.
He had drifted into thought of his parents, how they should've been there, seeing and watching their grandchild grow. He had thought of Mia, how her life had been taken from her due to her ill state. He lost 3 of the most important people in his life, and he was losing his composure for never letting out his angst over the deaths.
He had screamed up into the air, effectively startling the little girl chasing Oinkers, and she had stared in shock and awe at her father's once black hair turning to blonde, the ends more spiked and his usual dark eyes had been teal.
From that day, he knew he had turned into the Super Saiyan that his father had mentioned a couple of times, claiming it was a myth. If only his father were here now, so that he could prove him that it wasn't a myth; it was very much real.
He was brought back to the present when his 13-year-old daughter shouted, "Daddy! C'mon! I wanna get some food in my tummy before we hit the hay!"
Haruto smiled to himself, thinking, I wouldn't change anything just to keep her happy.
