Just a Meaningless Book

It was just a book at times: a meaningless little notebook that didn't seem to have any value. But sometimes it was more than its weight of gold in worth: those times she remembered what it held, and how important that contents was to her.

And it had been just a simple suggestion that had led it into being. To write down those memories she knew she would forget but still, with all her heart, she longed to cling to and remember… And so she did take up writing them down – forgetting, remembering, and then reading those memories she'd forgotten. And then she'd hold that book in her hands and be grateful – so grateful – that she'd listened and accepted and followed: that she was writing all those important things, so they would still be there, even after she woke up one Monday morning and found her memories of them gone.

It wasn't as great as having those memories there, but at least they weren't gone forever. That book made sure she would get them back – even though she'd wake up on Mondays and see it on her desk first thing and not spare it a second glance.
