A little bit of Maumi (Maureen and Mimi) friendship – not slash, about when Mimi was eight and Maureen was nine.
Maria Marquez sat in the sandpit, softly whispering a story to herself while shaping a castle out of the sand. She wanted her sister back. Mami had told Isabella to take Maria to the park, but Isabella had left her here.
And now she was getting scared, and was starting to chew her plaits.
All she could see was the empty park, and then something caught her eye. Another girl, wearing a white dress with what looked like cows on it, was on the slide. Maria would have like to go on the slide, but she wasn't tall enough to reach the first rung.
Maureen tossed her reddish curls to the side and glanced at her father, sat on the park bench reading a newspaper. She sighed. How boring.
Looking around again at the deserted park, she spotted a small girl sat in the sandpit. She walked over.
"Hi. I'm Maureen. What's your name?"
The little girl looked up, clearly terrified. "Maria" she squeaked nervously.
Maureen tried it out. "Mawia?"
The girl shook her dark plaits. "Maria."
Maureen frowned. "Too hard. I'm gonna call you Mimi."
Mimi nodded, scared that if she said something wrong this big girl was going to hurt her.
Maureen sat down. "So Mimi. Can I play with you?"
Mimi shrugged. "Okay. I'm building a castle for a princess to live in. Do you want to help?"
Maureen grinned, her sparkly green eyes lighting up. "Yeah! I love princesses. Can it be a big pink castle?"
It was Mimi's turn for her eyes to shine. The brown puddles glittered. "Only if the princess has a magical unicorn to ride."
Maureen nodded. "Okay then. The princess- wait, what's the princesses name?"
Mimi sat and thought. "Can I call her after my best friend?"
Maureen nodded. "Okay. What's your best friend's name?"
"April."
Okay, so how was that? Please review, they are the Mo to my Jo!
