Lies

"Don't ever questioned this."

Rose's gentle voice echoed in her head. Guilt stabbed her sobbing heart, as she remembered Rose saying those piercing words to her friend. For thousands of years she kept Rose's twisted secret, for thousands of years she told no one of their horrible crime. Why must they keep running, why must they lie to their friends?

She felt her unattended anger being to boil inside her. For thousands of years she carried the burden of Rose's secret, and now she's gone leaving her alone with it chained onto her throbbing ankle. Her misty blue eyes circle around the room until they fell onto the young boy sitting across the room.

He laughed whenever someone, mostly Amethysts, said a joke. The woman envied the boy's innocence. She envied the way he was able to keep smiling and laughing no matter what happened. How could a boy whose mother kept so many secrets be so happy? She guessed he just didn't understand when she meant… secrets.

"Hey Pearl, come join us!" He called for her. With a nod, she quickly placed a smile on her dried lips.

"Amethysts was just telling me about how she and…" his voice began to fade as her mind wandered to much more calamitous thoughts. Will she ever be able to tell them the truth?

"...Pearl? You okay?" Amethysts waved a hand in front of her face, causing her to snap out of her wailing thoughts.

"O-oh of course! Go on," she replied. Another lie.
