A/N: Yay, an author's note! And also yay, a sort of genderbend story! Keywords: Sort of. I don't own Sonic or any related characters.
"So what is this invention, Tails?" Shadow asked, grumbling as he always was.
Tails turned to the hedgehog. "Well, it's supposed to bring the opposite gender of you out as a seperate living thing. I tried it out on that mushroom over there," the fox pointed to a mushroom just outside, "And there was a rose." Directly next to the mushroom was indeed a bright red rose. Fang, who was sitting not too far from the plant, plucked it and handed it to Rouge with a half-hearted tip of his hat.
"Alright, just get it over with." Rouge said, holding the flower in her hands, not seeming to adknowledge it. Carefully, the young fox angled the machine in a way so it would hit all of them at once.
"You ready?" He said cautiously. The others just nodded. Tails hit the button and a bolt shot out of the machine, bouncing around the room and hitting any living thing in there, those living things being Shadow, Fang, Rouge, and Tails.
Next to Tails was a female yellow-furred two-tailed fox who looked about seven, wearing a white t-shirt, blue overalls and shoes like Tails', with short bobbed hair. She looked a bit timid as she appeared.
Next to Fang was a purple-furred wolf-weasel hybrid, also female, dressed similar to Fang, but she wore a brown-and-white shirt and had a lock of hair hanging in her face.
Near Rouge was a white-furred male bat with short spiked hair, wearing black pants, a black belt with a purple-pink heart buckle, and black-and-white shoes.
Finally, next to Shadow was a black-and-red female hedgehog wearing a white t-shirt that reached her elbows, a black skirt, boots that looked similar to Shadow's air shoes, and her hair was tied back with a golden ribbon.
"Huh? I-It wasn't supposed to affect me!" Tails said, looking at the girl next to him. The girl hung her head with shame, feeling unwanted. "H-Hey, it's okay! I just didn't expect you, okay?" The other Tails seemed to get a little happier, but hardly.
The two Fangs didn't seem to adknowledge each other, but they had there attention turned to the two Rouges. Those two were already arguing with each other. Shadow, however, was just plain confused at his female self. She seemed more friendly and timid than him, but still she seemed to be serious, brave, and a loner like him at the same time. She seemed to be thinking something over. "So...If I'm the female you...I need a female name..." She said, glancing at Shadow.
Not wanting to go into something complicated, the male hedgehog blurted out, "Senka!"
"...Okay then." Senka replied.
Tails tried to calm the Rouges and Shadows and cheer up his girl self, but when he yelled for them to stop, the girl Tails shook in fear. "S-Sorry..." He apoligized. He turned to the others. "Well, it seems like Shadow's already got a name for his other self, so I guess we need to name the others." He turned back to his girl self. "You can be Miley." The shy girl seemed to like the name. "And Fang's other self can be Nikole, Nik for short, and Rouge's other self can be..." Tails paused to think. "Uh, got any ideas?"
"Red?"
"Oh, that reminds me!" Senka remembered. "Rouge, were your parents dissapointed in the color of your fur, or were you born red and just dyed your fur?"
"...What?" The male Rouge, now called Red, said.
"Sorry." Said Senka, embaressed.
"Now, I think the best way to keep these guys from causing too much trouble," Tails turned to Miley and whispered that she probably wouldn't cause trouble anyways, "Is to take them to your houses and make sure nobody but the four-er, eight-of us sees them." The others agreed to this plan and carefully took their other selves to their homes.
