Lily made sure to wait for Severus, it was, in fact, their first day at Hogwarts. "Hurry Severus! I want to get a good view!" She yelled to him as they got off the Hogwarts Express. Lily turned and her green eyes pierced the crowd, looking for her friend.
"Here I am Lily!" said Severus. He rushed towards Lily, his slick hair and pale complexion drawing looks from other students, and from some snickers. Lily and Severus ignored them though; it wasn't like they mattered who cared. Just as Severus was a few feet away from Lily a boy her age with messy looking hair and glasses stuck out his foot, causing Severus to fall.
Lily ran over to Severus to help. "Hey! Leave him alone! He didn't do anything!" she yelled as she helped Severus up. The boy was laughing too hard to hear what she was saying. Another boy walked up and he seemed to know the messy haired one.
"Potter! Oi, James! Over here you bloody moron!" Lily straightened at the sound of someone picking on the messy haired boy, or James Potter as it seemed his name was. Lily's hopes were dashed though as the newcomer began to speak. "James-that was a good one! I enjoyed watching he face hit the ground!"
James laughed. "I liked that too, although I'd like to know more how this uglier-than-a-dugbog creature ended up with this beautiful miss." James winked at Lily, earning a glare from her. "Sirius, wouldn't you like to know too?"
"Lily, Miss Evans to you idiots, is a friend," snapped Severus.
"So it's Lily Evans? Well, Miss Evans," said James with sarcasm, "I hope I see you around Hogwarts."
Sirius grinned. "Ya, if James is really lucky you'll be Gryffindor," he winked.
"I don't think Gryffindor would ever accept you two!" said Lily. Severus stood there and nodded vigorously.
James and Sirius looked at each other and then began to laugh. "You think we can't get into Gryffindor? Just watch us," said Sirius seriously. He added, "Not even Slytherin would accept him. What is your name anyways?"
"Severus Snape."
"Severus? Snape? Ha ha ha ha!" laughed the two trouble makers together.
"How about Snivellus? It will fit your slimy look!" yelled James, gathering attention themselves. A few other first years laughed and some fifth years were reminded of their early days.
James and Sirius took one more look at Severus and Lily, James winking at Lily, and then they walked away. Lily's heart became so cold that the look coming out of her eyes could have frozen the devil. She swore that she would get revenge and avenge Severus if it was the last thing she did.
"Come Severus," she linked arms with him, "let's go get sorted!" The two followed the path all the other first years were taking. There was a man guiding them and he said his name was Hagrid. He was huge! They were taken to boats to get to the castle. Lily and Severus got into one and they watched as James and Sirius got into another boat with two other students, one of which Sirius "accidently" pushed into the lake.
When they pulled up to the castle everyone was in awe. No one ever forgets the first moment they lay eyes on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is truly a magical experience. Soon everyone was climbing up the stairs and was taken to a large room where Professor McGonagall was addressing them.
As she spoke Severus leaned over to Lily. "Lily, no matter what happens we will stay friends. Even if we both get into different houses," Severus knew they would. He knew Lily was bright enough to get into Ravenclaw and he was destined for Slytherin. "We will remain the best of friends. Always and forever." Lily just smiled at Severus, her green eyes and beautiful red hair beginning to melt his heart, at least a little.
