A/N: Written for the Mega Prompts Challenge, word prompts 334 – quicksand.
Like Quicksand
It was a trap that sucked the children in.
Glittering lights that invited them, despite the shadows and tales from horror that should have kept them away. Thoughts of things – treasures – left there untouched, because the adults were too fearful, too cautious. The made-up tales of children coming away with riches and eternal life…because there was no-one to prove them wrong. They knew of no-one who'd gone in and come back out.
The rumour was they went too far better places – except the ones the adults and the fearful told: that they were sucked up by the demons to feed those lights.
So the foolish children amongst them listened to the lull for light and fame and riches, and went into the heart of the hellish Tokyo, and there they were devoured by it, by the demons that lay in wait.
And they fed the lights that shone even brighter and called out to even more children like they.
