Ah, though I'll be late for work I think I'd better write this down before I forget. You know how it is with dreams.

I don't know where this came from; it's certainly seemed more real than anything I dreamed when I was a human. I guess a lot of unexpected things change, after you change species.

I was in a strange library—not the one at the school. This one was packed with more books than I've ever seen in one place, but it was a mess. I must have worked there, because I was putting a few books away. Oddly, both my eyes were still fine.

A youkai came in, utterly in his true form with a thick aura that filled the room—no power limiters—like walking around that way was the most ordinary and comfortable thing in the world and nobody would notice or care.

His appearance was stunning.

He had a delicate face, with amazing red eyeballs, yellow eyes, and thin, even, grey brows. His skin was covered in fine, tidy white scales with a slightly iridescent sheen. When I looked at his forehead I noticed he had a shakra like the ones on the Sanbutsushin, so I guess he was supposed to be a god or something-maybe a god of dragons, because of his horns.

He was dressed in what I recognized as a military uniform, though now, awake, I couldn't hazard to guess from what country. His grayish-white hair scattered over his headband and horns in a sea of ungovernable cowlicks, before tumbling in a long, ropey braid down his back. Otherwise he was impeccably groomed.

With the mess in the library I felt terribly undisciplined in comparison to him.

He asked me for something. Apparently I knew what it was, because I got the book for him right away, though it was hard to take my eyes off him. We flipped through it, looking for a section, leaning over the desk. He stood close, looking over my shoulder, so close I could feel heat coming off his body as I pointed out what he was seeking.

I glanced at his face and found him studying me, a youkai's vertical pupils in those red-and-yellow eyes. He was staring as if he expected something. I got the impression he was used to leading, and others were eager to follow. We would go somewhere together. But what exactly was our relationship again?

And then I woke up. It was morning. Hakuryu was on my chest, sniffing my lips as he does sometimes to tell me its time to feed him. I noticed the little dragon's eyes are the same color as the god in my dream, and his mane just as tousled over his horns. So I'm thinking the youkai I dreamed up must have been inspired by the little guy.

I wonder, if Hakuryu ever learns a humanoid form, would he look something like that? When I was a human, that face probably would have scared me, but now…it may be the most beautiful youkai face I have yet seen.

I guess I just love my pet. Certainly, that must explain it.
