WARM MILK AND WHISKEY

By: Vanessa Sgroi

Dean woke up screaming. He jackknifed into a sitting position, heart racing and chest heaving. He ran a trembling hand across his sweaty face before snapping on the light.

His door flew open, a giant silhouette filling it for a split second before Sam exploded into the room. "Dean!"

"It's...it's okay, Sam," he muttered hoarsely. "It was just a...a nightmare."

"Must've been a doozy," Sam replied taking in Dean's wrecked expression. "Wanna talk about it?"

A shiver wracked Dean's frame. "Nope."

"Want some company anyway?"

Dean rolled his eyes. "I'm not a kid, Sammy. You don't need to tuck me back in and kiss my forehead."

"Whoa, dude, relax. I thought you'd like to talk for a few minutes or something. Forget it—I'll go back to bed." He turned to leave.

"Sam, wait!" Dean scooted over, making a place for Sam to sit at the end of the bed. "Your right, I could use the company."

"Want some warm milk first?"

"Why would I want warm milk when I can't even stand the stuff cold?"

"It'll help you sleep."

"Sam, a whole bottle of whiskey wouldn't help me sleep right now."
