"Wanna blow lover boy one last kiss?" I was doing exactly what I had been told to do for all my life. Then she spat at me and I did something I was never meant to do; I lost my temper. "Alright then, let's get started." I raise my knife… then suddenly the brute from 11 hauls me into the air.
"You kill her!? You said her name!" he shouts before smashing my head in. I had just enough time to scream out Cato's name.
11 turned on 12 but I could hardly hear him; I could only hear Cato's shouts as he got closer to me. He collapsed onto his knees beside me begging me to stay with him. Then something changed; he grasped my head so it was on his name before fiddling with my token. "You brought it, all the way."
I wanted to nod but I couldn't, I said instead; "Always. Stays. With. Me." The pain made speaking kill. I moved my eyes to his. They were full of pain and desperation but he turned his head quickly. "Cato. Stay. With. Me. Always." His eyes were laced with tears now, I wanted to slap him, to tell his to get hold off himself. But I couldn't. I should slap myself, I was making him teary-eyed.
"I never liked Glimmer." He said almost whispering. "It was always you." He paused looking at my ring. "May I borrow this?" I groan a yes.
"Clove Hannon; may I ask for the honour of your hand in marriage?" The capitol must be eating this up, us the star-crossed lovers from district 2 but I know that Cato wants to ask me. He wants to be my fiancé before I die. Here.
"Yes." This time it isn't a groan it's almost like I hadn't just been hit over the head with a giant rock at all. Cato slips it onto my finger and holds my hand as my life drifts away. He tries to bury his face in his shirt to cry but I stop him. I want his face to be the last thing I see. And this want isn't just a want. It's a need that has to be fulfilled.
He whispers something so quietly I know that the Capitol won't hear it. I barely can. But it makes me smile.
As I close my eyes for the last time I realise something.
I told Katniss to blow her lover boy one last kiss when I should have been blowing one to mine.
