Harry Potter got out his wand and slowly walked in a medium-sized circle around Hermione and Dumbledore.
He dragged his dignified stick on the ground, its tip growing white and hot with protective light. Each revolution made the protection stronger. Hermione sighed and sat against the back of Dumbledore's chair. Somehow, Dumbledore's chair was there.
They were off in the woods again, the three of them, hiding from dementors. Harry slowly walked and carved that invisible circle into the world around them.
And soon, the dementors came. They battled against the walls of the shield, battering and blowing and not giving up.
Dumbledore sat with his head in his hand on the armrest of his chair. He never moved.
Occasionally Hermione shifted position, and observed the world around her.
Harry continued his circle, continued the sound of the wand on the rocks, a grave, gravely sound, that was all they heard for a very long time. The endless line of noise became more solid as time passed. It seemed to vary in high notes and low notes, of this, Harry and Hermione noticed, but Dumbledore wasn't paying attention.
Harry kept at his circle long after the dementors left. It began to snow. The snow melted into green flowers which grew golden and died. This cycle went on for a long time. And the endless circle was made, by Harry walking and dragging and going slowly.
Eventually everything in the forest died, and then the rest of the world. But by now the circle of protection had grown so strong it protected them from everything. Harry walked and dragged. Hermione sat, unable to form thoughts deeper than registering the color of whatever she stared at. Dumbledore now had his eyes closed. He had never moved.
The sun died and the planet died and it crumbled away, until eventually it was just Harry, Hermione, Dumbledore, his chair, the circle, and the ground inside it, floating in space. All the stars grew apart and faded away and they were left in an empty blackness.
After time, Dumbledore died and turned to dust. Hermione died, but Harry didn't notice, because she died in a position that looked like she was leaning against the back of Dumbledore's empty chair. And by the time he realized it, it was too late.
But all the while he never moved, save to keep his circle going. To drag the wand to protect. But eventually he died. And all that was left was the wand and the chair on the ground in the circle.
And leaves that stirred in a wind.
