Chapter 1- Girl on Ice

Five years have passed since the battle with Pitch, and Jack has been feeling more accepted as a Guardian of Childhood. Even though he is busy with the Guardians, he still makes sure he has time to hang out with his believers. Now at 15, Jamie still believes in Jack and they have been best friends ever since they met. Jack would give snow days on Burgess so the kids could have a day off of school. However, as much as Jamie hates it, Jack couldn't give the kids another snow day for the rest of the school semester.

"Oh just wait till your winter break, Jamie!" Jack laughed at his friend who was staring blankly at his biology textbook.

Jamie glared at Jack, "You would be saying the same thing if you had to study for finals!"

"It's one more week!" Jack laughed. "You're almost done with finals, if I give you any more snow days then your break will be cut off short! You want that to happen?"

"...No..." Jamie muttered, leaning back in his chair.

Jack picked up Jamie's notebook that was next to his textbook and opened to a random page to test Jamie what he knew. "Name one difference between RNA and DNA."

Jamie sighed, "DNA has two strains while RNA has one."

"Great, why are they important?" Jack asked as he read over the notes, he never learned biology but it looked very complicated. Jamie thought for a moment but then sighed in frustration. "Here, keep studying, you got this!" Jack put the textbook down and turned to the window. "I'll give you guys a good snow storm Saturday, so on your first day of break you can go play in the snow with Pippa and the others."

Jamie smiles and waves at Jack, "Okay, will I see you Saturday then!"

Jack laughed, "You bet!" Jack opens the window and jumps out, letting the wind carry him. The wind took him to his pond, his safe place, and home. He landed on a tree above the pond and sat there looking at the moon. He smiled, even though the moon was silent most of the time, he forgave the moon for many years of loneliness.

"Ah!" Jack looked down at his pond and noticed two girls around Jamie's age skating on his pond. One girl that had short brown hair tripped and fell on the ice.

"You okay Sarah?" The other girl asked. She had long blonde hair and helped to pick her friend up. Jack sensed something off about that girl, but choose to ignore it.

"Yeah!" Sarah said with a laugh, "But we should go home, I have finals to study for!"

"Ew, I so do not miss that!" The other girl laughed.

Jack watched as the two teenagers walked off the ice but froze when the girl with brown hair, Sarah, stopped and looked up at the tree he was sitting on. For a moment it felt like she was looking at him but then she turned away to follow her friend.

Jack let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Sadness crept up inside him, he thought that she could see him, but even now he doesn't have many believers. As she turned around, he got a good look at her face, a face that he remembered in his past. Crystal blue eyes, brown hair that framed her face perfectly. Jack looked back up at the sky, "She looked just like Jessica..."

"I'm so tired!" Sarah whined and laid down on her bed. "Hey, you want to watch T.V. Amber?"

"Can we watch Netflix, I never watched Stranger Things before." Sarah's friend, Amber asked.

Sarah glared at Amber, "Are you kidding it is the best show on here!"

Amber got upset with her friend for being shocked. "Well don't you remember what happened three years ago, I -."

"Yeah, no sorry... Sorry." Sarah looked down at the ground.

Amber sighed and sat down on the bed with Sarah. "You know it's been hard on both of us, but this past year you made things a lot easier. Thanks to you, I'm a lot happier."

Sarah smiled at her friend, "That's good to hear." A knock came from Sarah's door.

"Sarah honey, can I come in?" Sarah's mother called from behind the door.

"Yeah come on in," Sarah said.

Sarah's mom came in with a worried expression. "How are you doing, sweetie?"

Sarah gave her mom a smile, "I'm fine."

Her mom frowned and sat next to her on the bed, "You know it's okay if your not, we can talk about it. It's her anni-"

"I know." Sarah interrupted her mom, "I know, but I'm okay." Sarah smiled wide at her mom.

Her mother smiled back, giving her a hug and kiss on the head, "That's my baby girl, so strong." She rubbed Sarah's arms. "I love you. I'll see you tomorrow afternoon, I have to go to work, 16-hour shift."

"Ohh, good luck, I'll make dinner tomorrow." Sarah offered.

Her mother looked so happy, "Thank you, sweetie. Goodnight."

"Night." Sarah watched as her mom walked out of the room.

Sarah turned to a quiet Amber, "Hey I should get some sleep, I have tests tomorrow."

"Okay, night." Amber gave her a small smile.

Sarah turned off her lights and climbed into bed, "Night."

Ringgggg

"Yes!" Sarah shouted as she raced out of her class. It was finally winter break. "I'm free!" Sarah started running out the doors of the school but accidentally ran into someone.

"Whoa," the guy she ran into grabbed her arms before she could fall to the ground. "Excited that school is over?" He laughed.

Sarah fixed her hair and smiled shyly, "Yeah sorry, I just really want to get out of here."

"Me and you both!" The boy laughed. "Hey, aren't you Sarah Sutherland? Senior class president?"

"Yep!" Sarah smiled, "Nice to meet you! Um..."

"Jamie." Jamie smiled. "Jamie Bennett. Nice to meet you too."

Jamie and Sarah walk out of the school together and smile at the slightly cold air. "I hope we get some snow soon." Sarah sighed.

"I bet we will get a snow storm tomorrow," Jaime laughed.

Sarah looked at him, "What makes you so sure?"

Jamie smiled, "It's Burgess, it's always snowing here."

Sarah thought about what Jamie said, "It has been snowing here more than ever lately." Sarah walked closer to her car, "I'll see you around Jamie!"

"Bye!" Jamie waved.

"It's over!" Sarah plopped down on the bed, "I'm so happy!" Amber stared at her friend. Sarah looked over and saw her looking a little off, looking almost twisted, "Hey are you okay?"

Amber quickly responded, "Yeah I'm fine." The strange look fading as quickly as it came.

Sarah glared at her friend who was clearly lying, "Hey." Sarah looked closer at her friend, "You look kind of weird, is everything alright?"

Amber glared at her friend, "How about you mind your own business."

Sarah was shocked by the way her friend snapped at her and took what she said the wrong way, "I- I didn't mean it like that, I just- You- look different... Is something troubling you?"

Amber took a deep breath and tried to calm down, "Yeah sorry to lose my cool-"

"Sarah, dinner is ready!"

Sarah got up from her bed, "What is it?"

"It can wait," Amber said. "Go eat."

"Uh okay, but you need to tell me, I want to help if I could." She walked out of the room to go downstairs.

When Sarah was out of the room, Amber smirked, "I'm sure you got enough information from her." Amber laughed and walked to the mirror in Sarah's room. Pale skin, blonde hair, blue-green eyes. "Yeah, everything is falling right into place."

Sarah finished dinner and raced back up to her room to see Amber but only to find that she wasn't there. "Amber?" No answer. Sarah scoffed, "Where is she?" Sarah looked around for her. "Whatever, I guess she'll be back." She yawned and stretched. "Ugh, so tired, and I have work tomorrow." Sarah climbed into her bed, not caring that she still had her school clothes on. She heard something large shuffle under her bed, but she was too tired to care and fell asleep.

All night, Sarah twisted and turned, some sweat was on her forehead. She was having a nightmare. "No, stay away from me..." It was about dark horses, chasing her in the woods. She was running so fast and looked back at the monster. It had Amber's eyes. "Ah," Sarah fell over a large branch that she didn't see, she felt the pain in her ankle, she must have broken it, the pain was unbearable. "Wake up Sarah, this is a dream." She tried to wake herself up, realizing she is experiencing a lucid dream. Dark horses surrounded Sarah. "WAKE UP!" A figure appeared out of the shadows, she can only see pointy teeth and yellow-red eyes.

"Hello...Sarah."

"Ah!"

"Sarah I got you, it's okay!"

"Amber?"

"Oh sweetie..." It was Sarah's mom.

"Mom?" Sarah started realizing what happened.

"It's okay, it was just a night terror." Sarah leaned into her mom. "I thought you were over these."

Sarah looked around the room, it was darker than usual and Amber still wasn't in the room.

Panic started to kick in. Her chest started to tighten and hurt like someone was crushing her. She took in a breath.

"Sarah, oh sweetie." Her mom held her. Panic attacks. "You can control this." Sarah began crying, she was clucking her chest in pain, she couldn't breathe. "I'll go make you some tea! I'll be back!"

Sarah thought she was dying, she couldn't breathe and everything in her body hurt. She looked out the window, her vision wasn't the greatest at the moment, but she thought she saw something blue fly past her window. "M-momma," Sarah called her mom as she came in with tea.

"Hey sweetie, I need you to try to drink this." Sarah tried to control her breathing as she took a sip, it calmed her down a little bit. Enough for her to breathe again. Her mom held her tightly. "That's it baby girl, keep drinking the tea."

"I'm sorry I woke you up," Sarah said after calming down. "You worked 16-hour shifts four days in a row."

"Don't worry, it's fine." Sarah's mom looked out the window and smiled. "Look it's snowing."

Sarah looked out the window and laughed. "That kid Jamie was right, it was going to snow."

"You need to rest, I'll stay in here with you."

"Thank you, mommy."

"Sarah that was the second glass today!"

Sarah flinched, "sorry boss, it won't happen again!" Sarah went to the kitchen to get a broom to clean up the second glass she broke.

"I'll do it." Her boss took the boom from her. "Make sure you get more sleep. Go get table eights order."

"Yes, sir." Sarah walked over to table eight. She's been screwing everything up today. If she's not careful she knows they will fire her. "Hello, I'm Sarah I'll be-"

"Oh hey, Sarah!" Sarah looked up to see three people at the table. It was Jamie and another girl she seen at school. The other kid was looking out the window.

"Hey, Jamie!" Sarah smiled, "It's great to see you!" She noticed he was holding hands with the girl. "On a date I see?" She smiled.

Jaime blushed, "Heh, this is Pippa, she's actually the class president for the sophomores."

"Oh, you're in Student Government too!" Sarah smiled.

"Yeah, I love it." Pippa smiled.

"Class president is the best job in the school!" Sarah laughed. She waited to see if Jamie would introduce her to his other friend but he didn't mention him, which was weird. He was almost treating his friend like he wasn't there. "May I take your order, please?"

"Yeah, can I have a glass of water and a cheeseburger please?" Jamie said.

"Can I have water and chicken tenders please?" Pippa asked.

Sarah smiled, they were so sweet and polite. "Of course! You can, and you sir?"

"Sir?" Pippa and Jamie stared at Sarah and then turned to their friend who was staring out the window in his own little world. "...Um, sir?"

The boy was confused, why was she keep calling sir? He looked at Jamie thinking he was making out with Pippa and not telling their poor waitress their orders until they were finished. But they were looking at him in shock. "Didn't you tell her your order?" Jamie still looked shocked and shook his head yes. "Then why is she still calling for you?" He then looked at the girl, who was looking right at him.

"Sir, are you ready to order?" Sarah asked.

He stared at her in shock. It was the girl from the pond.

"Jessica?"

"Um no, Sarah." Sarah pointed to her name tag. He looked kinda sad and disappointed after she said her name. "Your order, please."

"You can see me?" The boy was still shocked.

"Ah, yes." Sarah laughed, it was strange for him to ask that. "Um, I'm guessing you are not going to order?"

"No." He said.

"Okay, I'll be back with your food." Sarah smiled and left.

Weird. He's cute but weird.

"Jack?" Jamie looked at his best friend. "Are you okay?"

"She can see me, Jamie." Jack stared at him.

"Isn't that good?" Pippa asked. "Why do you look sad?"

Jack looked down at the table, "she looks like someone from my past... Someone who I loved."

Jamie closed his eyes, "man..."

"Here you go!" Sarah came back with the food.

"Thank you!" Pippa and Jamie smiled.

Sarah looked at everyone,"I get off in an hour, maybe we all can hang out then."

"Yes!" Jamie spoke up before anyone else did. "We will wait for you at the park."

Sarah walked to the park, she wanted some answers, why was that kid asking those questions and acting so strange. She saw Jamie, Pippa and the other kid waiting for her. "Hey." They all turned around, the boy looked at her, afraid. "I can still see you." She teased a little.

"Ha, good." He smiled. "No offense, your almost an adult, how do you still believe me. Most people your age do not."

Sarah was confused, "Believe in you? I'm sorry I don't even know who you are?"

Jack was taken back but smiled, "Well you have to, or you wouldn't be able to see me!"

Sarah went pale.

Jack laughed, "I'm Jack Frost, you can only see me if you believe."

"I don't believe in you," Sarah said.

Jack's smile faded. "What? Don't be in denial! You couldn't see me otherwise!"

Sarah shook her head. "I'm sorry but I never believed in Jack Frost, he was always a myth to me."

Jack looked down at the ground. "I don't understand, you have to or..."

"There may be another reason how I could see you," Sarah said, looking at Jack.

Jack looked up to meet her eyes, "What's that?"

"I can see spirits."
