"Come on, let's go on the Gondola!" Aeris cried excitedly, grabbing his arm and pulling his body in the direction she wanted to go. Cloud didn't try to protest, not even after having to perform in a play as the two lovers in front of an audiance of nearly two hundred people. She let go of his arm and raced happily towards the tube that led to the Gondola ride. Cloud followed at a slightly slower pace, contemplating the evening silently.
Although the date was payment for being her bodyguard, Cloud couldn't help but wish that there was more to it than that. Maybe there was and he just wasn't spotting the signs. He didn't want to ask Aeris straight whether there was more or not because he was scared she wouldn't feel the same.
He ran a hand through his hair and walked down the path. He looked up slowly and he froze for a second. His mother had once told him, when he was curious, what happened when people died. She had said your soul went down a tunnel and then, there was a bright light and standing there, would be the one person you loved more than anyone else in the world.
Well, when he looked down the tunnel, illuminated by the bright lights behind her, and saw Aeris. And only Aeris.
