A/N2: Title taken from a line from the Bagles' "Eternal Flame": Say my name, sun shines through the rain/ A whole life so lonely, and then you come and ease the pain

He first appeared in her dreams the day they put her into the asylum and cut her beautiful long hair.
Trapped in her narrow dark cell she soon lost track of day and night but what she was supposed to lose, namely her dreams, stuck with her throughout the whole time. These dreams, that were both curse and blessing to her. Curse, because they were the reason why her family had brought her here, too afraid to keep her under their roof any longer. And blessing, because no matter how much she suffered from isolation and shock treatments, she always knew that there was something better to come. An entire future with him.
However, at this point, Mary Alice Brandon could only see shades of him, a figure, tall and blond. But even back then did she know they were meant to be together some day.

It was a long time before she first saw his face.
Lost and alone she woke up in the woods, not knowing where or what she was. She had been given a new lease of life and this time, it was to last forever. And there he was, the man of her dreams, as clear as never before. Only she wasn't dreaming anymore, she was wide awake, senses heightened and unimaginably sharp. And although she couldn't remember anything about her former life, who she was and where she came from, Alice recognized him at once. And she knew she'd find him eventually.

It did seem like an eternity until her visions finally came true. She had waited for this day, anticipated it every hour of her new life and sometimes she almost gave up believing it was ever going to happen.
Alice was sitting in a small diner, watching the storm outside from her place at the counter and tapping her foot impatiently, waiting for him to come in. He was soaking wet, rushing into the diner merely to seek shelter from the rain. Of course he couldn't have expected to find so much more.
The littlie pixie's eyes lightened up with glee as she told him "You've kept me waiting a long time." And all he could muster as a reply was "I'm sorry, ma'am." – just as it fit a young gentleman from the South like him.
He didn't know her, naturally, although Jasper Whitlock had already been a part of Alice's life for as long as she could remember.
But still, that night in Philadelphia, she was not the only one who knew that they'd stay together from now on for the rest of their endless lives.
