Simon Lloyd's partner threaded her fingers through his and pulled his arm over her. He smiled softly; even in her sleep she wanted his arms around her. She was a fantastically demanding creature.

She then rolled onto her side, pulling him with her. He drew her into his chest and curved to the shape of her sleeping form - ensuring he was as close to her as possible.

It was a subtle change in her breathing that told him she was stirring.

"Simon?" She asked the darkness, her voice deep and gravelly with sleep.

"I'm here, gorgeous." He murmured softly against her earlobe before brushing her jawbone with his lips.

"I love you." Her mumble was almost unintelligible.

"I love you, too." He smiled against her. He propped himself up on one elbow and watched her as she drifted back into sleep.

Not for the first time it occurred to him that the only reason he ever met her – putting concepts of fate and destiny aside – was because he had owed Ella Davis a favour. She'd covered a shift for him when he was twenty seven years old. A million year old tiny favour that she said she'd never call him on but one day had.

While watching the beautiful woman beside him, the woman he loves more than he thought possible to love anyone, sleeping peacefully in his arms Simon realised something:

For affecting his meeting Amanda McKay, Simon definitely owes Ella Davis another favour. Quite possibly ten – probably more.
