It was a sad, sad day. Yugi paced outside the hospital door while awaiting the news about his Grandpa after one too many shadow games. This time, his Grandpa's life was in jeopardy and Yugi knew more than anyone how much he depended on his grandfather in day to day life. His grandfather was the only relative he had, and if he lost him...he'd be well and truly on his own.
Not completely, Yugi... The familiar voice of the Pharaoh said softly in his ear, a cool spiritual hand resting upon the teen's shoulder.
How do I know you wont leave me, Pharaoh? Surely one day you will leave...the afterlife, remember? Yugi retorted, trying not to sound bitter. A small pearly tear leaked from his eye and he wiped at it with his scratchy jumper which was about 5 sizes to big for him.
Suddenly, the door opened and the doctor stood with a very pale expression on his face. "Yugi Moto?" He asked softly, hesitation clear in his voice.
"Yes, is my Grandpa ok? Can I go see him?!" The young boy asked, trying to push past.
"I'm afraid to say, your Grandpa passed away within the last five minutes, i'm so very sorry..."
Those words hit Yugi like a ton of bricks, he collapsed to his knees and began to weep. "GRANDPA!" he screamed, trembling as he had lost his one and only Grandfather...the man who had looked after him since his parents disappeared...his rock.
Short one-shot story, based upon the fact I have just lost my grandfather...
