A/N ~ Okay so this is a little something I wrote years ago (probably 7-ish) and have finally decided to share. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
Disclaimer ~ I own nothing, I only wish I did : )
The branches of the trees sway slightly in the cool autumn breeze that silently makes its way through the scarcely dense forest. A squirrel scampers up the side of a tall oak tree, a nut stored firmly in its cheeks. On its way to his hiding spot he startles a small bird that squawks loudly and flies off to find a new perch else where, away from pesky rodents. Sullen rays of sunlight stream through the forest canopy, lazily highlighting the newly fallen leaves that are scattered across the forest floor.
Off in the distance, there is the faint crunch and soft thump of movement. The air shifts as the two bodies move at a casual pace through the trees, following some unknown path. Curious animals poke their heads from hiding places throwing sometimes hostile, but other times welcome, looks at the travelers. Alongside the fair-haired traveler a sleek gray/black wolf trots, its nose moving back and forth across the ground before him. To the right of the fair-haired traveler stood a dark haired warrior whose sheer confidence is shown through the way she carries herself, head held high and shoulders straight. Although she is in a relaxed stated with her companion, she is constantly alert and aware of her surroundings.
She stops abruptly, placing a hand on her companions arm to halt their movement. She takes about three steps forward and suddenly a large from flies from the branches above towards her with a wicked growl that sends shivers down the fair-haired travelers spine. With a ferocious sweep, the leopards' paw speeds towards the woman's face but is caught in mid swing. She gives a slight tug and twists her body to whip the animal around and throw it towards the base of a large tree.
Dazed, the creature staggers back towards its intended victim, unwilling to give up a fight that easily. Once again its efforts are put on hold as the woman's strength and agility give her an advantage over the large cat; allowing her to once again throw the leopard at the tree as if it weighed nothing. This time, however, the animal does not get back up, as the blow to the thick bark has severed a nerve, killing it instantly.
Pausing for a short breath, the brunette turns and silently beckons her companion forward as she turns away from the scene. Without question the fair-haired traveler quickly catches up with her solemn companion, placing a comforting hand on the woman's arm, knowing how hard this battle would be on her mental state. The brunette glances as her friend and the fair-haired traveler smiles gently at her. This brings a slight grin to her face and they continue on.
They leave as quietly and peacefully as they came. The soft crunch and thump of footfalls fades away, allowing the faint chips of animals and the rustling of leaves to fill the air. Slowly, the sullen rays of sunlight grow dim and those quiet autumn leaves fall to the ground once more.
