Note: Found my old story book and while I was looking through the fairy tale stories, I read "Henny Penny" which ended on a much darker note than what I remembered. But it inspired this one-shot, so I guess it was kind of worth ruining one of my favorite childhood stories.
One sunny day, Aivenna was walking in the River Lands. She was looking out for any trouble as it was her turn to potrail that part of the River Lands.
Then suddenly, she heard a noise that sounded like a big creature slurping. She turned around and saw the large and long river draining fast.
She didn't know how it was happening, but she knew she needed to tell Interss, who at the moment is the highest ranking Overworlder in the River Lands, right away. So she ran to the Overworld base where Intress is staying.
On the way to the base, she ran into two Overworld soldiers wearing bright blue and white, shiny armor.
"What's wrong?" The one on the right asked.
"The river is drying! The water is draining! I need to tell Intress!" she told them quickly, and continued to run. The two soldiers, wanting to help, followed her.
On the way to the base, they came across Arias, looking as angry as ever, and his nose piercing shining in the sunshine.
"What's the hurry? Are we being attacked?!" Arias asked.
"The river is in danger! The water is leaving! We need to tell Intress" Aivenna said, and continued running. The two soldiers followed, and Arias also went.
"What do you mean about the river?" Arias asked as they ran.
"I don't know why or how, but the water is being drained." Aivenna said.
Arias was still confused, but didn't know what to say.
Then a voice called out, saying: "Hi! Where are you going!"
The group stopped and saw it was Drabe, Aivenna's teacher.
"Drabe!" Aivenna yelled, then ran to him. "Something is wrong with the river! The water is leaving it." she told him.
"That's terrible! We need to get help. Follow me, I know a shortcut to the base." he said, then went off the path they were taking. The group followed him.
The ran until they could see a bridge in the distance.
Arias noticed this part of the river looked fine. And Aivenna knew something was off with Drabe, since he wasn't suppose to be stationed in the River Lands, and should have known if he had just came there today.
When they got to the bridge Drabe and the soldiers ran onto the bridge, but Aivenna and Arias stayed off.
Drabe and the soldiers stopped in the middle of the bridge.
"Come on! There's no time to waste!" Drabe shouted.
"But the river is now fine." Arias said.
"We should still go!" Drabe said.
"Aren't you suppose to be in the Forest of Life?" Aivenna asked.
"I just got here! We can't waste time, let's move!" Drabe shouted, sounding very angry. The two soldiers didn't know what to do.
Aivenna and Arias didn't move. The soldiers decided to get off the bridge and back to them.
"No!" Drabe yelled.
Suddenly, M'arrilians jumped out of the water and captured the two soldiers, turning them into mindless puppets.
Outnumbered, Arias and Aivenna ran. Aivenna was crying and Arias was cursing over losing Drabe.
Going back, they found their way to the base. And later realized the river drying was just a trick to get Aivenna and who ever else, to walk into a trap.
