Beautiful is Death

Prologue

Blood

It seeps deep

She tried to forget. Yet the period of pain only seemed endless. Whenever she recalled that single moment, she could do nothing but watch as the past smiled back at her. Hunting. Reminding.

She was told once: we all have our painful days, and it was something that can help us grow. However, if growing meant moving on then she would forever remain a child, for she could not bring herself to forget the pain and misery brought by a single crime.

Her crime.

She remembered it so clearly...

"Get your hands off me." He said emotionlessly. The once loving and gentle golden orbs were now filled with malice and disgust.

Tears cascaded from her eyes. "But…"

He was the fire that threatened to consume her alive. However, drawn by the heat it offered and the curiosity of her naive heart, she ignored the risk of getting burned and allowed herself to surrender to its deceiving warmth.

The flames kissed her lips, a first taste of the forbidden fruit. It attempted to possess her, but she only stepped closer. She was selfish, she wanted more, she wanted him.

"I now have what I want." A wicked smile was written on his angelic face. "Thanks to you, love."

"But you said…" She whispered.

He left her damaged and irreparable. He stripped her naked for the world to see just how corrupted she had become. Yet despite all that, she blamed not him, but herself.

Her innocence broke her.

"I must say, I enjoyed our little time together. However, you should know..." He went on, pleased with the sight of the broken woman before him. "I didn't whore for you for no price."

"But I thought…"

Her heart bled that day, and it still does. To think that it still hurts so much when it happened so long ago made her realize just how deep the wounds he inflicted in the core of her being.

The blood of her people stained his hands.

"They were useless little pests unlike you." He continued with a sneer while he traced her face with his fingers. "It would be unfair to deny the world of such beauty."

"Kurama…" She spoke in a weak voice, unconsciously leaning closer to his touch.

He walked away without looking back.

"But, I thought you love me, you said you love me…"

She wished she's not who she was, not the child who betrayed her people, not the woman who foolishly fell in love with a thief, and not the girl who was left alone to grieve. She wondered how it would feel to just fade away. To be left as nothing but a remnant of a terrible past.

The thread of reason broke.

Misery finally took its toll.

Let me fade away

She breathed her last, bringing with her the hatred and sorrow she kept so long within her heart.

Live again…

A voice told her in her state of oblivion. Her eyes opened wide.

Live again

Then, there came a hope in the midst of despair as a welcoming hand reached out, giving her a glimpse of eternal paradise. She felt a warm sensation creeping through her soul. She felt its presence, she felt its embrace.

Death heard her cry.

Death heard her desperate plea.

Death my salvation.
