Jacob lay in his hospital bed trying to rest, as Selmac was slowly slipping farther away. He had asked for Jack to visit him, one last request from a friend. Jack hesitated outside the infirmary, visiting a dying friend wasn't something he wanted to do. He admired Jacob and hated to lose him. To be honest this part of the job was something he was never good at.

"Jack, come in." Jacob invited as he came within sight of the infirmary door.

"Jacob wanted to see how you're feeling." Jack had his hands stuck in his pockets.

"Well it's not pleasant dying."

"Yeah, I'm sure it's not," Jack looked down.

"Jack, I want to talk to you about something important." His voice had a sound of urgency.

"What's up Jacob?" He had an inquisitive look on his face.

"I want you to take care of my little girl."

"I think Carter does a good job of looking after herself."

"That's not what I meant."

"I don't understand."

"I told Sam the same thing."

"I still don't understand."

"Jack, don't let the regulations stand in the way."

"Regulations?" Jack took the seat next to Jacob not sure he liked where this talk was going.

"Yes, Jack, regulations.

"Jacob, what are you getting at?"

"You and Sam belong together."

"Whoa Jacob if you're going where I think you are…"

"Jack I've known for a long time of the feelings you and Sam have for each other." Jack didn't respond and sat staring at Jacob. "Say something Jack."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Jacob took a deep sigh. "Jack, I'm dying here and don't have a lot of time for your dumb soldier act. I'm trying to take care of my daughter. I want you two to get together and see what happens."

"Jacob, there are regulations against that besides she's marrying Pete."

"She'll never marry him. She's in love with you."

"Jacob, I don't think this is something we should be talking about now."

"When the hell am I going to talk about it? I have maybe a day left."

"Jacob…."

"Jack marry my daughter."

"What?"

"Screw the regulations and make my daughter happy."

"Jacob, do you what would happen if I…we…were to date?"

"Jack, I want you to take care of my daughter."

"Jacob, you don't know what you're asking."

"Yes, I do."

"Jacob"

"Jack find a way, marry her off world, I don't care how you do it. I'm entrusting the happiness and well being of my only daughter to you."

"You're not the first person to tell me the same thing today."

"Really?"

"My girlfriend broke up with me an hour or so ago, because she couldn't compete with Carter."

"You're girlfriend?"

"Yeah, her name is Kerry."

"That settles it then."

"No, there's still the issue with Carter marrying Pete and the new house they bought."

"She's not marrying him."

"What?"

"Sam is on her way right now to break up with Pete."

"Jacob…"

"Jack, I still out rank you take care of my daughter and that's an order."

"I'll talk to Carter."

"That's all I ask. I need to rest now."

"You do that I'll stop by later." Jack left with his head spinning. He had some hard decisions to make and felt hope in his heart for the first time in a long time.
