Once upon a time there was a creature that walked the Earth. It had no definite name, it had no definite figure. Some called it Lucifer; some said it looked like the devil. It was a whisper that floats from place to place, like a wind that blows across the land. It took the shape of what you most desperately desired. It would whisper in your ear, calling to you, goading you, tempting you.

One day, a wizard trapped its spirit inside a mirror. It was furious. It banged on its container; bang, bang, bang! The spirit still showed what was desired of the onlooker. The wizard wanted no notion of the creature to exist. He claimed himself to be Erised, and showed the mirror to everyone, claiming it was an enchantment. The mirror soon became known as the Mirror of Erised. The mirror was labeled dangerous, and soon was banished from all lands.

The wizard had a close friend, Helga Hufflepuff. He told her to hide a large, powerful item that was illegal. She promised to hide the mirror in her school, keeping it safe from all people. The wizard placed a tarp over it, so one could find out what it was. She placed it in an empty room, built for that purpose only. Tempted to see why it was so powerful, she whisked the tarp off the object only to see herself standing in a busy little kitchen with Godric Gryffindor's arm wrapped around her. There were many children about, some that looked like Godric, some that looked like Helga, and some were in-between.

The door opened behind here, and the vision disappeared. Rowena stepped forward and placed a hand on her friend's shoulder. What is this? rang in Helga's ears. What? What? What? What? This became a distant echo. Helga backed away, wishing to be in the little kitchen she saw.

Rowena saw herself as the ruler of Britain. Everyone admired her beauty, elegance, charm, and most of all, intellect. She was queen of the world. Her friend, her loyal friend Helga, was at her side, all beautiful in her marigold dress. Arrogant boys, the ones who thought they were better than her, were bowing, bowing down to here. Then it ended. Helga had moved in front of her. She spoke slowly, saying she was doing a favor for a friend. Rowena nodded, knowing what to do.

"Keep it hidden… keep it hidden for all time."
