ONE TALL TOT

By: Vanessa Sgroi

Dean watched Sam as he slid down his last chute and climbed his last ladder to "win" the game. Dean smiled and said, "Okay, Sam, time for bed. It's quarter past 1:00 in the morning."

A mutinous look slip across Sam's face. "NO, NO, NO!" Sam tossed his head, sending dark hair aflutter. "I wanna play 'nother game of Chutes & Ladders!"

Dean waited with bated breath to see if his 6' 4" brother was going to throw himself on the floor in another tantrum. It had already happened twice, and he wasn't looking forward to another one. But Sam merely thrust his bottom lip out in a fit of pique.

Silently cursing the witch's spell that had landed the Winchesters in this predicament, Dean began to clean up the board game. "No. No more games. It's time for bed."

"But..." Sam's eyes filled and his lower lip trembled.

Dean wagged a finger. "Nope. Not gonna work this time."

Sam sniffled.

Dean sighed and scooted closer to Sam, pulling him into an embrace. "Listen, dude. You're tired. And if you fall asleep out here—well, you're too damn—I mean, darn—big to pick up and put to bed."

Sam shoved his long, pajama-clad legs out in front of him and wiggled his toes. "I'm too big?"

"Oh, yeah. Waaaaay too big. So it would be real helpful if you'd get up and walk to bed."

The younger Winchester considered this for a long moment. "Okay." Sam yawned and his eyes slipped to half-mast. "Deanie?"

"Yeah?" queried Dean as he helped Sam to his feet.

"Can I have Chocolate Chip pancakes for breakfast?"

"Sure, kiddo." Dean chuckled to himself, certain that when the curse wore off, Sam would want to detox after all the carbs and sugar. "With extra syrup."
