Soulmates
a/n: More CrissColfer fluff, yay!
Darren Criss and Chris Colfer are soulmates.
Not in the way that the fandom suspected them of being for so many years. They weren't sexual at all – or at least, not anymore. There has been experimentation, of course. When you work so closely and intimately(both emotionally as well as physically) with a person, things get confusing. But no, Darren and Chris aren't lovers. Chris has a boy, and Darren has a girl, and they are both very happy with their partners. Darren is already making plans to propose, while Chris isn't quite ready for a commitment like marriage yet.
But whenever they are together, something happens. The air almost hums with the perceptible change. They are intimately wound together, even when they're not next to each other – even when they're on opposite sides of a room, Darren can always read Chris, and it's the same for Chris. They can spend hours together, legs tangled, heads resting against shoulders and their breathing the only sound in their ears. Even on that first day, when they first met, they just clicked. And working together as onscreen boyfriends had only strengthened that bond. Yes, Chris had been afraid that his affection for Darren was simply a result of Kurt's lovestruck attitude towards Blaine – and yes, Darren had been afraid that his geek-outs with Chris were just a result of the younger boy being polite and unwilling to piss off his costar. But no, Glee came to a close many years ago, and Darren and Chris are still soulmates.
Darren knows when Chris is upset. Chris knows when Darren needs to laugh. Darren is always there when Chris needs someone to rant to about his newest script, and Chris patiently listens to Darren's new songs. They're still snarky with each other – Chris still calls Darren 'Frodo' from time to time, and Darren always retorts with a "Well if I'm Frodo, you're Legolas. So there." And Chris always asks him why, because although he knows the answer by heart now, it makes him feel warm all over when Darren leans over, stares at him intently and says with a smile, "Because you've always been an elf. And a royal one, at that."
Darren is the wood nymph and Chris is the snow nymph. Chris is McGonagall and Darren will always be Harry. They have a million and two inside jokes, and often communicate with just a smile or an arched eyebrow. Darren is Chris's stress relief and Chris is Darren's rock. They have sleepovers like five year olds and watch Harry Potter and discuss the merits of various musical productions and argue about music and Darren teaches Chris how to play the piano and Chris teaches Darren how to use sai swords – something that reduced Darren to a squealing little child because he was "finally a ninja!"
And they still sing together, like they used to as Blaine and Kurt – but it's always different when it's Darren and Chris. There's more tenderness and sureness in their harmonies – because Blaine and Kurt were a teenage couple who did end up with their happily ever after, but Darren and Chris are adults and they know that this is forever.
You are now, and tomorrow too.
