"Four, there's something you should know." Christina said clearly upset.
"About Tris?" Four asked quietly.
She nodded. "The doctors said there was more than one heart."
Tobias closed his eyes and took a deep, "She was pregnant? It wasn't a question, he knew.
Christina nodded again. "This early on, they couldn't tell what it would be...she trailed off a bit. and then, "I'm sorry Tobias."
"I should've been there!" Tobias said with anger and bitterness.
"Four, don't do that, you couldn't have known what was gonna happen, and besides, they would've killed you too!" Christina reminded him.
"Maybe then I could die knowing I saved them. All I have now is the knowledge that I couldn'tkeep the one I love safe. She was my responsibility from the start, and I failed her and our child." Tobias said matter of factly.
"Four, I know what you're feeling. You've convinced yourself there's something you could've done, and now you live with the guilt that you let down the person you cared about most in the world. Sometimes, I can barely live with myself. So yes, I know how you feel Four. Quit acting like you're the only one whose ever lost somebody special, cause that's not even remotely true. " Christina was mad now, but she also knew Tobias didn't deserve her anger.
"I wish it was me, or maybe, just maybe, all of us could have lived and maybe we could raise our child together, but that's not in the cards for me, and now I can barely breathe."
There was nothing Christina could say to make Four feel better, and she knew it, so the simply sat, silently grieving the loss of Will and Tris, and a little one with a heartbeat.
